What do people mean girls are casual gamers? I'm straight up hardcore. Barbie games are extremely difficult. lol :)

Jokes aside, I've been gaming since I was 4 or 5. Before I was born, my mom was a gamer. I have many consoles, handhelds and games. I think there are just as many girls into video games as guys, but I think girls just usually keep it to themselves.

I think the reason why most girls are casual gamers is because games appeal to men more than they appeal to women. I do agree with your statement that women can enjoy same games that men do. I have two friends, both of them are girls, one is a huge Bethesda fan and the other plays Bayonetta on a regular basis. Never knew why it was so surprising to see a girls playing the same games as guys.

Majority?  I call BS.  In 2008 40% of gamers was surveyed to be women and that has increased a lot in the last 5 years..  On XBL I run into girls every single time I play, it is not out of the norm at all.  They just turn off there mics often because they are harassed so much.

It's funny, when me and my sister were kids she was the one who insisted in getting a console, i had no interest at the time. now i'm the only one who still plays. the only other girls i might know who play games are WoW gamers who got into it because of their boyfriends, so i guess a lot of girls will start playing because of their boyfriends if they didnt start as kids like i did.

Edit: that means some of you guys just arent very convincing.

I got into gaming when I was young because my childhood was so sterile, sheltered and dull, and my Dad was a buyer of cool gadgets, But thanks to RPG games that i know a re liked by both genders, as well as platform puzzlers like Tomb raider, which I KNOW is/was definitely like by males also I stuck with the hobby to my current (embarrassing) age. I must say that when I was finally exposed to it, male 'hardcore' gaming was quite disappointing to me, mainly because of how non-hardcore it was. I've had bf's who were hugely rated in their halo online cliques who couldnt beat the first 'wall' boss in my favourite monster hunter (yian kut ku in freedom unite) or couldnt last 20 minutes of the (often double digit) hours long battle against Yiazmat in Final Fantasy 12.

Though I must confess I am no ace at shooters, I am less bad at them than those guys ever were at 'my type' of games. I really dont think gender plays any difference in what games a person will like, or what they will be 'able' to play.

Disclaimer: After all my horrible self promotion above, I must confess I have recently got into the my little pony iphone app, which is amaaazing (and tearing me away from monster hunter 3 ultimate), the MLP app is possible (most addictive) game of the year to date , so maybe I'm completely wrong in my theory LOL!

That's because guys like everything! Guys are the bread and butter of all genres.

So dames ultimately like the same games as men.

But! I'm sure if broads were polled you'll see they often like the same stuff. Like Mario and Peggle.
