Doubtful. There is plenty of overlap and some exception but interests often differ.

I play Battlefield 1942 that was patched/modded with the husband. I don't like to go online and play with the other people anymore, as I mentioned too many dudebros now.. I used to play the original Tribes a lot when I was younger, but things changed with online and I don't feel like playing with the people on there anymore. My husband was always into the original FPS', but said that that they've gotten to the point it's just milking it now... he plays Red Orchestra 2 though and is really interested in Rising Storm, the new expansion/stand-alone. I was the one who got him obsessed with and into the new Tribes :)

If I were into drugs, then yes, I would be jealous. But I like to live in a world without colorful rainbows. |
But do you want to live in a world without sunshine? No sunshine = basement troll();

Impressive, most impressive...I rarely meet people who even know of that game, let alone have played it. Wish they make HD remake, so more people could enjoy that gem. |
Yup. I only know its name, but never played it actually. I would definitively give a go an HD version, I love everything Quantic Dreams has done to this day.

Well, if you can look past really old visuals, you can grab it at GOG for $10 - http://www.gog.com/gamecard/omikron_the_nomad_soul
Be warned though if you're unfamiliar with it, it's completely different than QD games that came after it - I really wish David Cage starts incorporating more ideas from it in their future titles.
To get back on topic, funny "Hey Ash, Watcha Playin'?" from few weeks ago
Well I give up on accessing page 5
@Axumblade
Yeah me and my friends have to go into some kind of party chat whether it be on steam or Xbox just so we dont have to deal with stuff like that.
@RolStoppable
I don't look at it as an insult. i'm aware that she isn't a big fan of me so if she likes this thread and hates my others I'm fine with that.

I believe you solved the mystery of Rol. o.o
Anyway.. I've been playing games all my life. Maybe the sibling thing was an influence, I always played games with my brother. We generally shared the same interests, so even though he was older than me we always ended up playing the same games.
| Marucha said: I think like cutesy stuff, we are all more apt to enjoy things like the social aspects, but like male gamers, we pretty much extend across all the genres. I've known some gamers who were not completely impressed with console or what the industry was producing, so they went totally MMO even though it sucked up most of their life and they had full time jobs. I don't know that specifically has to do with gender, but I think we are open more to social/cutesy/girly styles than obviously the guys... but then again, I've seen plenty of guys who are into the same things. Just like individuals, we all vary in tastes. The only myth is that we don't play the hardcore games that guys do. Of course we do. The same variations can be seen with male gamers of course, so there you have that. We don't have the numbers we should have, but then again technology and more creativity in the industry I think will pull more back girls in. Some of those girls are in a much younger generation playing Mario and Kingdom Hearts on their DS for example, already have the exposure and ability to discover and be able to play different games and fit into a possible niche in the future. I tried Facebook gaming once, but I thought it was pointless and wasn't really moved. I like the idea of doing that from my Android tablet, except... if I wanted to play a game to level stats, I'd rather play Rune factory, get back into Guild Wars, play pokemon, harvest moon or some serious JRPG or pull out one an RPG or something from my huge backlog lol. Next on my list though is a 3DS or at least a copy of Xenoblade. With all casuals in general, I think technology barrier affects things... I think that stops a lot of casuals from getting into console gaming, but I strongly suspect some of those people were playing during NES era, SNES, arcade era, etc. I remember having a few friends, male and female, who were real interested in playing, but were self-conscious about the fact they either sucked at it or it seemed too hard for them... but then I noticed also some of them got kids and they buy the systems for them, so that kinda gave them the courage and the entry point to try to play and now they play a lot more than used to. I think playing games on android also helped the same friend to think about maybe playing the other games he thought he was too difficult. I logged in plenty of hours in Phantasy Star Online just sitting in the lobby while chatting, but I didn't consider that really social. I think that had more to do with the forum I was apart of. I had my game systems setup so I could play them in a window on my computer and was doing other work while occasionally joining the group to play a few levels. Sometimes the guys and girls on a PSO forum to would have me take pictures of their characters so they could make forum signatures and many of us would trade or gift things to the noobs. Baldur's gate I was introduced to by another friend and I have the original and the second one on PS2. It was OMG expensive for a really old PS2 game, $40 something used at Gamestop... but my husband I thought it was it was totally worth it. We played all through the first and we wanted more of it, so we went ahead and picked up the second one. For online, I'm not heavy into as much anymore, unless they're small groups like in Minecraft or Terraria. Too many dude bros playing now and I don't have the patience for some of that BS. I remember some of the groups I would associate early on and play games with and if you are playing with a complete stranger, it's just not the same anyway. I don't have nearly the time to invest in an MMO that I used to either... I'd be tempted to play with the husband if we weren't so busy with life, but we play Minecraft on the weekends that's how we spend time together when we aren't out doing something else which we usually are. |
It's not just the cutesy stuff, but it is usually the cutesy that works better in co-op. We also played a bit of Halo and Killzone in co-op, but the reduced screen area makes it a lot less fun to play. The lego series games work better but they tend to get too similar. I'm sure they will be a hit again when the kids get a bit older.
She misses playing Everquest just like me, but it's not feasible with little kids. MMO's demand too much time. That's where facebook comes in. Just like you said with pso, great for multitasking. Updating work stuff, staying up to date with the family and play a bit in between.
It would be nice if the adventure genre gets a big revival. We both like story driven games like Syberia and Post Mortem. Heavy rain didn't go down well with a new born, not fun to see kids go missing and die. Beyond might fare better. Syberia 3 should release some time eventually, same as The last guardian. And maybe Diablo 3 co-op turns out well on consoles. I miss the Baldur's gate console games, perfect co-op.
