NVIDIA: PS4 GPU 3x less powerful than Titan, but more powerful than Xbox 720

Forums - Gaming Discussion - NVIDIA: PS4 GPU 3x less powerful than Titan, but more powerful than Xbox 720

You have to take everything with a pinch of salt at these shows. Firstly we know the Titan does roughly ~4.5 Teraflops and the PS4 does 2.5 Tflops, so that instantly draws suspicion that Nvidia are full of it. Also nothing on the 720 has been released, and I doubt Nvidia have anything to do with it after their bitchy article about consoles....so I think this is Nvidia trying to steal the thunder from the consoles and back to PCs.

Hmm, So what we are doing here is comparing one of the best single GPU cards that there is, which costs $1000, to the upcoming PS4, which doesn't contain the best AMD GPU counterpart and wont be $1000 (bloody obvious)....?

Sigh....sure lets give the consoles more crap based on whats obvious.

Gaming on: PS4 Pro, Switch, SNES Mini, Wii U, PC (i5-7400, GTX 1060)

I have to say I am more interested in the GDC presentation then people trying to defend the PS4 tech. Lets be honest as far as tech is concerned there is really nothing to argue about as we all know where the PS4 hardware is compared with existing PC tech.

I believe the real interesting story is that NVIDIA is try to position their cloud based solution as an alternative to console gaming and I think that is a much worthy topic to talk about.

one of the problems I have with articles like this is that things are taken out of context.  Just taking the graph without knowing what the presentation is in relation to makes it hard to form a good opinion on the subject

The majority of the rumors have been suggesting it but they are just rumors though

The hell nVidia? You're not joining the Nintendo-dissing bandwagon too? Maybe you just forgot, let me help you...

Now seriously, while Titan is stupidly powerful and the TRUE next generation in graphics, it's not an important player right now. Next year will get those, when GPUs with that kind of power appear at more affordable prices.

It is a official nVidia slide... so nVidia is upset with the new generation.

I don't get why Nvidia is so upset by this, they couldn't offer a system on a chip design so it's their own fault.

I don't know too but I think it is because the money lost with each console sold... at least in this generation they have the PS3... now nothing.

That is the third direct attack from nVidia to the next-generation in less than one week.

I think they are getting scared, they must realize that since alot of PC games are very similiar to their console counterparts that AMD will have a advantage on the PC graphics card market aswell.

Mostly though i think the chart shows are very wrong image, since the top notch graphics cards these days are simply way to power hungry. Just to compare a Geforce 7800 GTX hade a peak power consumption of 80W and that was the top dog back in the day(and a similair design was used in the Ps3). A titan Gpu has a peak consumption of 260W(!). It's like using 3 7800 GTX cards in SLI. And that's why i think AMD did a incredible job by creating such a powerfull APU, since the GPU of the PS4 will like have a slightly higer power consumption than the RSX in the PS3.
