Laughable ban.

Freedom of speech is increasingly becoming restricted by the modern morality police. In the modern Western world the established power can shut the mouth of their opponents, minorities and differing opinions by accusing them of "instigating hate". This unfortunate development in the Western world is a huge problem for democracy and humanity.

I love Greece. A wonderful country and culture. In my opinion Greece has an immigration problem rather than a racism problem (although they often go hand in hand).

In terms of the rise of Golden Dawn it is racist. Don't water down what it is. Talk of the non-greek races being sub-human is racist. End of. No arguments.

On the other hand a lot of this is overplayed. The leftists still have a larger majority than the far right although this looks likely to change. The mainstream middle parties are still way ahead.

Based on that I would agree that it can possibly be a immigration more than racist problem for the majority of Greeks.

Yeah Greece wont officially recognise other races as citizens (where is their freedom of speach?), so no problem right!?

Don't let a nice island holiday keep you in the dark, whylst your sipping your frappe, ask the Greek waiters about the native Albanians or Macedonians living in Greece, if they look blank or go all ape maybe do some reading, if human rights don't matter to you, enjoy your fetta cheese

What does that even mean, "recognice other races"? Most European countries don't use race to describe ethnc groups, they use nationality and citizenship.

I assure you, I know very much about Greece, the culture, society and mentality, all the negatives and the positives.

"When in Rome, do as the Romans do"

How about ethnicities instead of race, does that suit you better?

Do as the Romans do? That's a cop out, and morally weak

According to the latest statistics almost 99% of the population of Greece follow the Greek Orthodox religion. Religion is a reflection of culture. I would say that qualify as "doing as the Romans do".

If this was his first offense then a lifetime ban is too harsh. A half-yearly-salary fine and a half-a-year ban would have given him plenty of incentive and time to think about what he did.

Imagine if Lazio did this with every of their players. The team would consist of Klose and a few black players :P

Ask about the Macedonian Orthodox religion to see if it's allowed in Greece (freedom of speach?), even the langauge is not recognised let alone allowed to be taught to ethnic Macedonian children in a class room, Macedonians must register as Greek Orthodox and as Greeks in the census

Muslims are the 1%, they can't even be ethnic Albanian or ethnic Turk muslim

I think its very possible the 20yr old didn't realize the significance of an action that occurred over 70yrs ago. Many people are completely ignorant of history.

Even if he did, a ban for life seems greatly over done for such an offense.

I think he should have been banned for life. I don't believe he didn't know what he was doing.

Greek youth are becoming more right wing as their financial crisis continues, they gather around the banner of the Golden Dawn (Nazi's) which have won some seats in parliament, Greeks are quite anti-foreigner, and anti-minority (They don't offically recognise other races in Greece), it's quite a racist country, more so than any other EU country, although their are some in Greece trying hard to control these influences

What that man did wasn't an accident

Eh.  Greece has a huge racism problem, but more then any other country feels like an exageration

What with Poland, Bolgaria and such.

Those other country's officially recognise their minorities at least, which gives them some hope for reform and improvement

Eh fair enough.   Greece is like France in that regard.

No, Greece goes even further by persecuting it's Minorities extensively, France is tolerant by comparison

Oh right... I forgot about the stupidity with the Albanians and the whole "how dare you call yourself Macedonians yur tryin to steal are land!"

Even though the stealing of land seems very unlikely in most places of the world, let alone europe.... and the fact that Macedonians weren't ever considered Greek hence why cotemporary sources listed Alexander the Great as "Half Macedonian- Half Greek" and his dad had to kick the ass out of half of Europe just to force themselves into the Olympic games.

I don't think I would like to be an Albanian, or Macedonian in Greece, if you speak up your likely to get your brains bashed in, terrible place to live openly as an ethnic Minority by all accounts

Oh I wasn't joking there I was being serious.  It has been years since i've been in any threads about history and seeing the ridiculious trolling greek people get into when talking about historical facts and pretty much how their government hurts general history for the world.

They even have their own weird name for Macedonia, i forget what it's called.

providing they can prove hes not JUST an idiot and that he is a racist idiot, then i would say the ban is deserved.
