It's preposterous to judge Wii U before its second christmas with Mario.

It's "second first-Christmas," thank you.

Aw christ on a fucking bike, not another one!!!

The console has only been on sale for 4 months and half of that time there's been a software drought.

Have a look at what's coming up for the Wii U: Need For Speed Most Wanted, Lego City Undercover, Monster Hunter 3G Ultimate, Pikmin 3, The Wonderful 101, Wii Fit U, Game & Wario, Rayman Legends, Dragon Quest X in Japan, Wind Waker HD, 3D Mario and Mario Kart 8.

I'm also personally expecting a price drop of $50 in time for Black Friday to coincide with the releases of 3D Mario and Mario Kart 8 in an attempt to scupper the launches of the PS4 and 720.

Nintendo have the strongest stable of system selling IPs in the business, saying it's dead after just 4 months is foolhardy.

Before the end of the calendar year the Wii U will have an installed userbase between 10m and 15m. Guaranteed.

These ridiculous threads really need to stop.

You mean another Christmas with another Mario, right? :)

That's what I was getting at (:

Guaranteed? Be careful, someone that likes bets could take this one.

Nintendo is selling their IPs to Microsoft and this is true because:

Haha, there is no way it'll sell LESS than the GameCube. 40 million is more reasonable but I think 50 million is more realistic.

There's no question though, this console is not going near Wii levels of success. Part of the problem is the lack of games, part is the price, and part is the weird controller. Luckily the first two can be rectified.

The biggest mistake Nintendo made though, like Maelstrom says, is that Nintendo is trying to appeal to the hardcore with Wii U. That is always going to be a losing battle if your Nintendo.

my wii u is still a bit rare, do you mind if i leave it to cook for a bit longer, before i say it is done?

If the Wii U is well done...then the Vita should be burnt isn't it?  Honestly, the system has only been out for 4 months and all this doom and gloom has not stopped since it's release.  Nintendo didn't make it easy on themselves having such a drought on the system (~2-3 months of no significant game release will really shoot your sales down).  Once the games start coming out the Wii U should start seeing decent sales. It will be interesting to see what excuse people will come up with when the PS4/720 sells less or equal to what the Wii U is selling at the moment!!!

The Wii U is currently selling below what the Gamecube and the '$599 PS3' were, which is pretty terrible, so if the PS4/720 manage to sell even worse than a system that´s selling extremely low numbers, then don´t just a stick a fork in the Wii U, stick it in the entire console market.

i was hoping for facts...guess not!

Nintendo Network ID = itsJabby

You can say the same thing about the other two. Yeah they might have more software support, but their hardware will exceed the Wii U's in terms of power AND price. Last time I checked for every purchase of a wii u with software, they covered their costs. Couldn't say the same thing for MS and Sony.

If the next two consoles end up like their predecessors (esp sony), then they haven't learned not..one..damn...thing.

I think what you're saying is very valid, but I need to mention other devices. I promise not to flame.

We have had three new hardware launches in the past few years, as the "PS360Wii" generation is winding down (3DS, Vita, WiiU). All three of those have fallen short of expectations. Only one has been clearly favored, the 3DS. But even that is falling short of expectations. The focus should not be on any one particular console, but on the overall scenario that may lie ahead for ALL of the "traditional" consoles and handhelds as tablets and smart phone games continue to see overall growth. Ask yourself this question: If the WiiU is seeing these dismal numbers for sales, what does that mean for the PS4, or the next XBox?

In the past, this would mean that the remaining share would go to Sony and Microsoft. Huge sales for both. But I have this feeling that tablets and phones are going to seriously gouge into their market shares as well. They will most likely do better than the Wii U, but that might not be saying much. I have long held the contention that the hardcore gamer alone cannot support the entire video game industry. This has gotten more evident and obvious recently. The bulk of growth in the industry has been because of smaller, more casual games. Being an older gamer myself, I was around for the arcade scene of the early 1980s. In those days there was no such thing as a "hardcore gamer". Everybody from all walks of life played those games. It's happening again, following an update to the formula of "cheap, easy to pick up and play, and right under my nose". The home console, in general, is designed for a hardcore market. A nice tablet is far more versatile and portable. The games on a tablet are cheaper (including ones that could be considered "hardcore"). I believe it's already happened but we're all waiting for the other two shoes to drop, so to speak. And with Ouya coming as well as Steambox, well... it's going to be a fascinating generation.

BTW I'm a big fan of consoles, I am not "championing" tablets. Currently I am doin' Tomb Raider (reboot) on PS3, Mass Effect 3 on Wii U, and Dead Trigger on my Acer tablet.

We ALL wanted it, now we ALL are finally going to get SHENMUE III !!! Let us REJOICE IN THE STREETS!!!
