I wonder if shooter fans enjoyed it or did they feel let down since it's so different from other FPSs?

I love shooters and class BioShock as my favourite game this gen.  Everything was executed perfectly for me, story, gameplay, ambience, environment.  I literally found it flawless and I still remember how I felt when I watched "that" moment in the game, it was very similar to when I watched Fight Club for the first time (clever writing).

Glad you enjoyed it.

With all those "I hate shooters" club members saying that they had fun playing it I guess I'll give it a try if I ever own a system capable of running it.

I like a ton of shooters. But this one is probably my favorite FPS. Bioshock 2 is awesome as well, do not listen to haters.

Yeah I definitely would. It's a lot different than other FPS. Both in gameplay and story/atmosphere.

Very good review. I am a big fps fan and I easily agree that Bioshock has by far the best campaign of any FPS games this generation. The shooting may not be as refined as some other games, but the atmosphere is, to this day, the best in the business. Just make sure to crank up the difficulty because being an unstoppable killing machine will obviously be detrimental to the atmosphere.

This game is too scary. No thanks.

Add me to the club of "The FPS genre just isn't my thing... but man, Bioshock was one heck of a game!"

Easily one of the most pleasant surprises of the 7th generation, Bioshock really paved its own path with an incredible story, fluid gameplay mechanics, great (twisted) characters, wonderful atmosphere, and amazing pacing. Really can't speak enough praises about the game.

And even though I feel that the game's ending sequence felt oddly "safe" compared to the rest of the game (talking about the events post-Andrew Ryan's revelation), the rest of the game was truly sublime. Who knew I could be mesmerized so much by the corruption and twisting of the mind and soul of humanity.

Can't wait for Infinite.

Great review, I really like the idea of reviewing outdated games.

I'm a fan of FPSs and I love exploration (Metroid Prime and Half-Life are among my favourites), but I just couldn't get into Bioshock. I've tried on 2 separate occasions and it's just not for me. I liked the story, so I don't know if it's the gameplay or something else, but I'm probably of the few people out there that didn't enjoy it.
