Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Braid Dev: New Xbox 'Not Strictly About Games'

I wonder what type of focus microsoft will have during their kinectbox reveal. OBVIOUSLY it's going to be nothing but kinect lol, but what else are they planning.

I have a feeling that they are going to go way overboard in attempting to present the next xbox as an "entertainment center." Xbox isn't an entertainment center, never has been. It's important to push that idea, it benefits the company, but it's not going to sway consumers if they can't even play a bluray. At some point the PS3 took that mantle and it's been that way for a while.

If they bring out another celebrity in an attempt to offset some inadequacy of the hardware. "Presentation" over substance.... Just don't. It's that beatles rockband crap all over again. Nobody cares about celebs selling the hardware. Show us the games and features.

my 360 is my media device of choice. Sterams anyhting from computer, streams netflix and hulu etc. I can rent movies through it or watch my fios tv. Many apps are voice enabled too. It a great media device already, I cant wait for what the next box wil bring. All it really needs is DVR ability. I have no interest in it playing blu ray (or even DVD for that matter) I get all media through the internet and streaming.

Wishful Thinking but from the rumored specs it could happen.
MS is always trying to get people to purchase their OS and other products with tie-ins. One of the features that could be pretty solid is the ability to steam PC games to your NextBox. One of the rumored documents talked about streaming from xbox to PC and I am thinking it should also go the other way around.

As for the nextBox being a media device, I pretty much already use it that way within my home. Actually I use both the Xbox and PS3 as one is in my bedroom (PS3) and the other one is in the living room(Xbox). Since both have the same types of apps like Hulu Plus, Nextflix, Crunchroll, Crackle, Amazon Prime etc. They both serve that purpose. PS3 gets the nod for Blu-ray while Skydrive on the xbox actually has proved to be pretty damn good.

well until we get actual AAA exclusives that are ONLY on xbox and aint halo or gears of war it doesnt matter how many studios microsoft buy or build. throughout this gen microsoft have had plenty of studios but all we've got is halo and forza over and over again from their 1st party. next gen they need more exclusives.

So, let me guess... what about Viva Piñata, Kameo, Fable, Gears of War (You didn't mention it), Alan Wake, Blue Dragon, Lost Odyssey (albeit these last two where from a 2nd party), and the huge amount of schumps that Cave produces combined to several non-first party exclusives and the solid support from XBL Arcade and Indie? What, doesn't all those count?!

no point mentioning exclusives nobody cares about. only 2 meaningfull games have come out of microsoft 1st party and its the 2 i mentioned already. gears of war not included because its not a 1st party title. dont deny microsoft need more exclusives! you want them to continue like this!!?

What? WHAT?! YOU won't care about Lost Odyssey or Alan Wake, (I can understand Rare's games though) but trust me, people do. ¬¬

There's no significance in who he is as a developer that made XBLA's breakout indie hit, because he's going by rumours and knows just as little as the general public about Durango. Actually, wait. That's quite telling.

They used to have more exclusives, which is why I got the Xbox 360 this generation.  Since they stopped making all those, I probably will pass on their next console and stick with Sony and Nintendo..

"Naturally the common people don't want war: Neither in Russia, nor in England, nor for that matter in Germany. That is understood. But, after all, IT IS THE LEADERS of the country who determine the policy and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is TELL THEM THEY ARE BEING ATTACKED, and denounce the peacemakers for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. IT WORKS THE SAME IN ANY COUNTRY."  --Hermann Goering, leading Nazi party member, at the Nuremberg War Crime Trials

Conservatives:  Pushing for a small enough government to be a guest in your living room, or even better - your uterus.

Won't argue with you there.

Honestly, they could have won this gen if they had cared more about games. Oh, well. The optimal thing, though, is to own a WiiU, Ps4 and Nextbox; if money's not a problem.

Isn't this the guy who said his knowledge of the next Xbox is based off the same leaks and rumors we know of? Sounds like either MS has no interest in what he's doing and he's mad, or he's got a deal now with Sony and is trolling as a part of it. Reminds me of when Oddworld Inhabitants went MS and suddenly turned on Sony in the media.

Also, no console is all about games anymore. Hell PS4 reveal had a huge portion of it dedicated to social connection. They all have multimedia abilities now and have for generations.
