I think the Wii got more media attention -- good and bad -- than Sony's successor to PS3.

Honestly, if it wasn't for this site I wouldn't have known about February 20. Meanwhile, in 2006, I was being bombarded with news about Wii from all sides.

I don't think many people outside of our bubble are aware of Sony's press conference or the rumored specs of PS4. There's nothing really transcendent about PS4 so far, whereas Wii captured the imagination of people beyond the video game world.

that is true. I didnt know about feb 20th until this forum. I knew about the Wii because of Wii ads everywhere Town Square Manhattan, New York.

Toys r us had a HUGE wall with the picture of the Wii. I mean massive.

You're confusing announcement hype with launch ads.

There were lots at Time Square without release.......

*There are non for PS4 at the moment.

How can you advertise something that hasn’t be announced? What would be the point of announcing it if there was already ads for the console?

*Media attention....? Thread title.

So now it is about media attention? What happened to seeing Wii ads in Manhattan?

Has the Ps4 been announced? Do we even know its official name?

You mean it is getting much at Gametrailers? It depends where you look, Wii got a lot of attention even before it was released, the X360 got a lot of attention aswell, at some points you could not open MTV or it was X360... X360 and X360 they were talking about.

=p It is just like they are talking only about PS4 now but that is because their is not much other news around this time of the year.

^ what he said.

He's still wrong. He's comparing a console that was already revealed and advertised to one that is rumoured to being revealed tomorrow. I thought it was pretty simple to understand. Clearly not.

not really.....there isn't quite a hype as someone else claims. So I agree with Veknoid and Pookah.

Pre-release hype? How hard is to understand? Context

I feel the opposite. Both Wii U and PS4 seem like they should have made a lot more noise pre-reveal than they have. I do think it's cool Sony is really trying to get it known with aggressive advertising though.

Sony's New Marketing Firm Dollars at work :D

The coverage of this Event is getting to ridiculous per-portions. I love it!

The Dreamcast, Xbox, PS2, Genesis, SNES, Wii, Ultra 64, and countless others have gotten just as much attention and maybe more. I think gamers are maybe just a little more ready for the next consoles than usual because this generation has lasted so long. But as far as media coverage it doesn't seem that big.

The PS brand is still strong it seems.

I believe the Wii had more hype

Agreed, 100%. In fact, you hit it right on the head.

Hype for the PS4 conference coming up Wednesday has certainly garnered a lot of attention here on the gaming web forums, but like Veknoid said, outside of that the PS4 isn't nearly the hype machine that the Wii was in 2006 going into its E3 reveal.

The Wii had a four hour wait and record-long lines at E3 in '06. And remember, E3 attendees are the press and gamers, NOT casuals. If Sony and the PS4 can achieve this, then I'll concede to the hype level:

People in this thread are comparing consoles after they were unveiled with the yet to be unveiled PS4. PS4 already exceeds the hype levels of those consoles, even pre-reveal.

Imagine the world after feb 20 lol.
