Forums - Sony - How big does the PSVita price drop need to be?

So newcomer with one game and 32gig memory and the wifi vita comes out to be...

$40+$80+$250+Tax= Around $400? Wooow

↑↑↑Is this right↑↑↑

There are plenty of bundles around with 4 gb memory and a game included now. If I was buying a Vita now, I'd definitely go for the AC white Vita bundle and I can get it new for $250. Also, anyone who paid $80 or more for 32 gb is a fool or he/she has a lot of expendable cash.

Being realistic, a $199 price point would be ideal.

I think $179.99 still is better, Its not only competing with 3DS!

179, LCD model, and a new Vita version with OLED at 229, both have 4GB built in.

Cards need to be cheaper and a 64GB one need to come out.

I'm surprised at all the people saying that Nintendo would drop the price of the 3DS as well. They just launched their first system... ever? (not certain) which is selling at a loss from the get-go. The 3DS itself only turned profitable about 6 months ago and has been selling extremely well for quite a while now. I think it would be a very, very, very hard sell for them to make to the investors that they should drop the price again "because Sony is dropping the price of their machine!" Hell, they might need the profits from the 3DS to offset the Wii-U's losses.

OT: I have no idea really. I bought mine for £180 with a copy of LittleBigPlanet, which is £50 less than the RRP. Most of the places I see selling Vita's have the wi-fi model for £200. So I'd say a price drop would have to be lower than either of these. £170 with memory card and possibly a game too would be sensible.

I'd say $150 would be a good starting position for the Wi-Fi model, and $200 for the 3G model. Honestly, Sony really needs to learn how to advertise better. They have such highly acclaimed games like P4G yet they only show off CoD. I'm pretty sure the CoD audience isnt interested in hand helds.

A9 Core and OLED should be cheaper to make soon. Sony gonna make 4K OLED TV, so price to make Vita shouldn't be to expansive then.

Why not the same drop 3DS was given? 33%. $249 reduced to $169

Its not going to get one. It has the best screen in its class, Sony are already making a loss per device sold. Vita is actually dirt cheap for what it is, much better screen than $250 + tablets. Sony just need A LOT more games support and much better marketing.

I agree with you about the marketing issue. But I think what really decided Vita's fate right at Launch was how Nintendo secured pretty much all support from japanese developers for the 3DS.

PSV is a year old now and still there is no Final Fantasy or MH games announced for it.  If Sony intends to beat Nintendo in Japan, restoring the relationship with Japanese developers should be a priority for them.

Ok heres my take $179.99 with at least a 4gig memory.

Cut all memory cards by 25% off.

Nintendo then will probably put the prices of its consoles to this...

$139.99 bundle with SM3DL
$169.99 XL bundled with NSMB2

3DS just became profitabe at $169 in August, so I don't think it makes sense for them to drop the price until sometime next year if sales start to dry up.  3DS is doing well in all territories, and exploding in Japan.  Nintendo has no reason to sacrifice profitability at this point, as the initial price drop in 2011 saved the fortunes of the system.
