Forums - Gaming Discussion - PS3 Outsells 360 Every Year except '06 & '08

Totally not surprised. We knew it from the start.

Despite all that the 360 still has almost a 100 million unit lead when it comes to software which is way more important because that is where the profits come from.

Imagine not having GamePass on your console...

We're talking about overall popularity of systems. The PlayStation 3 outselling the Xbox 360 on this kind of consistent basis shows the worlwide demand for PS3 is better than it is for the 360. That's the topic, thats the point, and that's the truth. That and the fact that the recent report of how the "ship through" totals of PS3 have surpassed the 360 despite the year head start that Microsoft had (and yes, that really IS extreamly relevant and telling) is proof of what the most preferred console is.

Profit and how it's determined is not relevant to this topic, nor do you know for sure how it's calculated. That's a separate topic altogether, like how much money is put into making/advertising/selling those games vs how much they bring in. So you say the 360 has a 100 million unit lead, that means squat to me, as you aren't involved in those specifics of profits I mentioned, so you can't claim that as any sort of deciding factor in any matter.

See my previous posts, concerning your sig. That statement is a distortion of the truth, as it only concerns the US market. Not Worldwide.

I thought it was more profit if you sell hardware because it's your hardware and you get most of the percentage of the sale whereas for software a majority of the profits go to developers, retailers, etc. Plus you also can't really compare software to hardware. 600$ PS3 compared to a 60$ game. I might be  wrong on this though because I have no idea how much of a percentage Microsoft/Sony/Nintendo get when from a sale of a 3rd party game.

Interesting that it outsold in 2008.

In 2008 Xbox did have Fable 2, Gears of War 2, which are both fairly big series.
Although PS3 had MGS4, LittleBigPlanet, Resistance 2 to name a few.

I suppose one could also argue Halo 3's continued effect from it's initial launch in the later stage in 2007 produced more sales on the Xbox than the PS3.

Nope it is worldwide. And it is the truth. Check financial reportings.

yep although there's some conflict about 2011, the evidence is in current sales. the gap wouldn't be below 1.6m right now. it would be 2.5m.

that's for those who think 360 won 2011. it looks like PS3 will have a 200-500k ahead or 200-800k behind 360 by 2013 yr.'s end.

Software sales are still more important then hardware sales and the clear winner in that department is the 360 which crushes the PS3 in software sales.
