Forums - Website Topics - Please get rid of the garbage off topic posts in gaming forums

It would be extremely easy to put up a new rule thats " gaming,Sony,Ms, and nintendo forums are strictly reserved for gaming discussion only." Very similar to the announcement forum. Leeway can be allowed for adjustment.

That thread title was somewhat confusing if you weren't really thinking about it. People should be a little more descriptive in their thread titles sometimes.

I have been saying this forever. We have got to clamp down non gaming related shit in the 4 gaming forums. Thats includes sales AS A FORUM ALREADY EXIST FOR THAT. This site is a mess from top to bottom. Alot of things can be done to make sure there is a place for everything not just some cluster fuck.

You cant change people unless you go to the extreme and ban them. The most you can do in this situation is have a moderator who will be responsible to transfer/move topics to the correct forum.

There's other sections for other stuff but they should make a Electronics Discussion forum for stuff like TVs imo unless they are ok with seeing those topics in General.

"You cant change people unless you go to the extreme and ban them."
I agree, and think a ban it too extreme. It's too bad that the mods cannot revoke a user's ability to create new threads, or simply lock them out from creating new threads for a period of time.

"The most you can do in this situation is have a moderator who will be responsible to transfer/move topics to the correct forum."
Locking the thread, with a message stating why it was locked would be more effective than moving topics, I think. It forces the user to learn from their mistake.

While I do understand, I must say that it takes up very little of your time. People will always trick you with titles to get you inside. News programs do it all the time. Even if everything was how you want it someone would find a way to trick you some more. What it take? 15 seconds or less to realize it was another battle thread on a site that is know for battles?

That's actually against the forum rules:

"Do not use the title as a deceptive hook to lure people in. "

i dont see anything wrong with it tbh :P

That would be the correct thing to do but unfortunately you'll get people who will respond in a raging fashion saying the moderator is corrupted blah blah blah or they will just continue posting threads until they actually get a warning or a ban lol.

Yeah, it happens. That's why I would like to see mods have the power to ban users from creating new threads, for a period of time.

i'll say they should post things about MS that are not related to games in the general discussion forum.

Pretty sure you can change which boards appear on the Hot Topics list

That's not what he's talking about radish. You mods really need to learn to read...

Just to clarify, he means that the separate company sub-forums (Sony Discussion, Microsoft, Nintendo) should be restricted essentially to gaming related topics within the domain of those companies rather than everything and anything related to that company. For example, Sony's sub forum discussion should be strictly based on the PlayStation business (PS3, PSVita, etc.), and not things like their TV business or non PSMobile handsets. Or another example being no discussion of W8 or WP8 in the Microsoft section.

The problem I see with this restriction personally is that the current structure of the forum allows the discussion of pretty much any topic someone wishes to speak of (within reason). If we were to place this restriction, things like W8 and WP8 have no focused sub forum to be discussed in (it would get lost in General Discussion). The mitigate that, people would ask for new sub-forums to be created and that's a counter to our current focus to make things more streamlined and general. The community just seems to be more alive when you make things more general in nature as it keeps a greater group of people (speaking strictly numbers here) together.

Having said that, I also get your point that, given this is a video game based site, the discussion should revolve primarily around that. Now whether discussion should be this restricted this way or not is to be decided by the community as a whole. I don't think the mods alone should just pick one side without opening it up with what the majority of the entire community would like to see. I suppose I'll discuss a means to do this with the rest of the team and we'll see where it goes from there.

If you look at the current structure under Forum Index, Nintendo Discussion, Sony Discussion, and Microsoft Discussion all fall within Gaming Forum. So by the current struture those sub-forums should be resistricted to gaming. Any subject that isn't Gaming, Sales, or Website focused should, by the current structure, go in the Off-Topic Forum.

^ That's the problem tough. This site does not have structure though it likes to pretend it does. The basic forum structure can t even be maintained.

I thought this thread was going to be about actual garbage. You have wasted 3 seconds of my time, reported.
