another thing that gets overlooked are all those Ps3's bought as cheap blu-ray players and linux running systems

Thats hardly a viable point now and for the last few years. Bluray players alone are much cheaper so now its safe to assume a PS3 bought for the bluray will buy at least a few games.

its also safe to assume that everyone of those pirated halo's were just a lengthy demo and those people went out and actually bought the game

Now your just being silly :P

Well, forgive me for being confused but I thought this thread was for baseless assumptions after making an observation of some sorts

The torrent links and the numbers they came up with are based on something.

As for the ps3 bluray comment, its based on common sense. You can buy a bluray player for under $100 if you know where to look. It just isn't the primary reason to buy a PS3 for the past 2-3 years.

Xbox: Best hardware, Game Pass best value, best BC, more 1st party genres and multiplayer titles.

I don't see your point. Whether or not it was bought for a blu-ray device in the last year or two or 6 years ago is meaningless. THose units were still bought for strictly blu-ray.

However, I honestly don't think that ever was an issue. I don't see someone dicking around with a gaming device to just play movies with and I don't see salesmen recommending a ps3 for a blu-ray device. It was just something spewed to make fun of the ps3 over.

As for total SW numbers I will remind you of a few things. A. this is VGC. Don't take those numbers so seriously. B. SW sales werent tracked in Europe for a short time after Ps3 was launched so the 360 would be effected by total SW sales more. And C. Ps3 sells better in territories that VGC has no possible way of tracking so Ps3 would suffer more from that.

It's not the PS3's fault the 360 gets pirated. Sure, its not fair, but certain things just aren't fair. Here's a quote I think you'll enjoy:

"I think you have to come to terms that many things in this universe aren't "fair". Trying to put things on a even field just doesn't match the universe we live in."

Even if it's true, it doesn't matter. When you're talking about an installed base, from a business, real-world perspective, you're talking about units that are going to consume through official channels and take part in the economic infrastructure. A piracy box is largely irrelevant, except in a negative way.

I'm pretty sure Microsoft isn't going to release a statement bragging that there are actually millions more out there with Xboxs playing unlicensed games.

Not completely overlooked as I posted the same point before you

Pretty amazing that even after all the piracy issues the 360 still manages to sell more software than ps3.

PC get's pirated more. Nintendo and Sony has been hit with piracy problems as well. It sucks but it is a reality but I'd hardly say any of them are safe from piracy. The only console that was literally killed by piracy was the PSP

I disagree with you in a way. PSP HW sales was drived by piracy at times lol. I agree the SW sucked because of piracy.

And because of this it lost support in developers.  They lost trust with developers too and you can even argue that the PSP is a part of the reason PSV is not doing well right now too.

Wow, I didn't realize so many Xbox 360 games were pirated. I did a quick search and it looks like the PS3 is cracked and can run pirated games now.

I know the original Xbox was hacked and modded - people would put a big hard drive with many, many games inside. And I know a cop's kid that used to sell PS1 games that he copied a long time ago.

Can anyone confirm the PS3 can run Pirated games too?

Really not sure I see any point of Consol over PC's since Kinect, Wii and other alternative ways to play have been abandoned.

Top 50 'most fun' game list coming soon!

Tell me a funny joke!

Of course it can, all you need is an external harddrive and a softmod to the ps3 and you can run every game under the sun on it and hack yourself trophies from games you don't own as well. the Ps3 has been hacked to play full retail games for over 2 years now.
