I think it's quite possible. Personally, I'm not sure which version I'm getting yet. I'm going to have to see which one my friends are getting, I guess.

I didn't buy GTA IV, but I will buy GTA V

Maybe it is just me, but I don't see any hype for GTA V just yet.
I think it will sell less than GTA IV. And I would not count on legs either, because the Xbox 3 and PS4 might be out in about 10 months.

Entering this thread, I would have said no. But after finding out that GTAIV on PS3 is within 500k of the 360 version, I say it'll probably do it.

I think it'll outsell GTA IV easily, I'm sure the marketting will pick up a month or two before release.

God of war and the last of us could ate some of those sales. I have lots of unfinished games and little time so I will just buy one of those 3, I still don't know which. The other games won't affect GTA sales.

I wouldn't buy a new game if the next gen console will be around the corner in a few months.......

Hard to say, the 360 has a much bigger hardware lead in america now, which is gta's biggest market. However, this late in the gen it is hard to say how many of those systems are still in active use...

Honestly, it will probably come down to two factors as to who wins.

The first factor is when the next gen systems come out. Xbox and ps3 software sells will probably start drop once the next gen is announced and drop a ton when the systems come out. If the nextbox hits a long time before ps4, it will help the ps3 make up the ground from an inevitably stronger 360 launch.

The other big factor will be marketing and possible exclusivity deals. Microsoft has shown a willingness earlier in the gen to buy timed exclusivity, but their strategy seems to have shifted now. I think a more likely scenario would be the ps3 getting some kind of timed exclusive deal. Either with dlc or the game itself. Rockstar seems to prefer sony, and it might be a good way to get out of their exclusive deal with agent, which appears to be vapor...

I would say the conditions favor sony this time, but hardware advantage still belongs to microsoft...

I voted yes, but it depends. If Microsoft timed-exclusive DLC and/or console bundle then PS3 has no chance.

going by GTA4 sales, this should be relatively easy win for ps3. its europe that will do most of the damage. problem is, vgchartz tracking in europe is not very accurate. also GTA4 on ps3 may have passed the 360 version ages ago.
