Typical Kotaku, since when is a tiny 5% loss equate to "tumbling"?

When their user base is infact tumbling and they'd do anything to generate hits? :D if you wanna keep your sanity when it comes to gaming "news" you have to make a note to pre avoid any articles on their or anything that pours from Patchers mouth.

Gamestop would crumble without used game sales and they know it. If PS4 bans used games then Gamestop and other game retailers would refuse to sell PS4 hardware and software. Sony knows they need Gamestop and the other retailers so they can't ban used games.

Unless they plan to cut retail out. But I don't think the world is ready for digital distro.

All the other big chains that rely little or nothing on used sales would be more than happy to grab the new SW market share left vacant by Gamestop. Anyhow, whatever Sony devise, it has to be totally hassle-free, unlike PC DRMs, as console users won't ever accept all the troubles that even PC gamers consider barely tolerable.

Remember then the WiiU and the Xbox 720 had the exact same rumor. I'm not sure why people are freaking out about this, there's no way Sony would be dumb enough to make a move like this. Especially when the P3 is doing fine in software sales.

Sigs are dumb. And so are you!

Sony might not even be able to do that even if they wanted to. Stopping people from selling used games is probably against EU regulations see: http://www.vg247.com/2012/07/03/eu-court-rules-gamers-are-free-to-resell-digital-games/

But I could imagine Sony or Developers giving you exclusive/free dlc/price reduction if you voluntarily bind a game to your account. So it won't run without being run either on your PS4 or from your account. This way you could still take the game to friends or play offline.

Gamestop will be buried when consoles go 100% digital media anyways.

I said this in the other thread, but I think it's important to show that this probably isn't what Sony is planning. What I think this actually means is:

1. Digital copy
2. Gaikai copy

Put the disc in, you now have the download version for your hard drive and the Gaikai version for tablets etc. all connected to your account. Sell the game, the new person registers using the disc and you lose the digital/Gaikai copy. This is far more likely, in my opinion.

The patent basically seems to be the check for whether it is registered to you or not. It doesn't seem to say what it then does with that information (eg. then prompts you to register)

NNID: Oscar89

I doubt Sony will use this tech it would kill the PS4 as well as many gaming retailers.
