I don't understand the complaint about it looking like its targeted for younger audience. Is Mario and Pokemon targeted for younger audience? I mean I still see a ton of people buy those games that is well over the age of 20.

I'd have preferred they do it with a more mononoke style and I think that woulda made a funner game.  I don't like newer Mario style either. But its sells heh.

It looks good. Still don't see liking it more than persona, deus ex, or dark souls tho at least from the demo.

I think its the fact that the protagonist is a kid, and not a teen or an adult is some peoples gripe, and not the art style because there is not much difference between princess mononoke, spirited away and the game in terms of art.

If people like spirited away then I still don't understand the turn off for ni no kuni

Skyrim is the best RPG of the gen.

This is a JRPG and JRPG's suck!

Pokemon kills skyrim in every aspect.

Skyrim best RPG this gen? Its not even better than Oblivion...

I own Game of the Year Editions of Oblivion, Morrowind, and Skyrim.  skyrim is leagues better than both Oblivion and Morrowind.  Better in pretty much every way.

Skyrim is the best Elder Scrolls game to date.

Don't be silly. Other than  graphics, Morrowind crushes Skyrim. Hand crafted, hand places items and dungeons and enemies in a World very alien and unique to what we usually see >>>>>>>>>>> Dragons. Pretty Graphics.

Edit: And as far as Oblivion vs Skyrim goes, Skyrim went backwards in areas like quests.

you DO know there's more to game design than graphics and art direction, right?

Skyrim's score was epic, leages better.
Sound Effects were better as well
Voice Acting was leagues better than morrowind or oblivion
Art direction wise, I'd say Skyrim and Morrowind are neck and neck (Morrowind for the alien feeling landscape, skyrim for everything else)
Technically speaking, skyrim was obviously the best looking
The interface and heads up display were refined, the menus more clear on skyrim
Both the main plot and the side-faction plotlines were much better written
Skyrim had better character builds and more variety
The world building excercises were arguably better in Morrowind, but that's not to say skyrim wasn't great and didn't have tonnes of depth)
Controls in Skyrim were far better and more refined
The difficulty curve was smoother and less annoying in Skyrim than it was in Morrowind or Oblivion
Morrowind definitely wins when it comes to innovation and new ideas, but skyrim is a mix of those ideas refined
They're all equally great when it comes to replay value, given the different builds and play styles the game accommodates
Skyrim, with it's simplified and refined features and better controls, was much more flat out fun.
Skyrim had more variety in its gameplay styles as well as mission types (though they're all pretty close)
I can't say for sure, but I think Morrowind has a slight edge in pure content volume, but they're all pretty close
Morrowind also gets a slight edge in level design, but that's not to say Skyrim isn't close behind.

So tell me again, of those 18 categories, skyrim wins by a landslide in almost half of them, barely losing the few it does lose.  Don't get me wrong, they're all great games, but objectively Skyrim wins in most categories, and the few ways it WAS inferior to Morrowind and Oblivion (mostly just morrowind) aren't really big deals.  yeah, some of the RPG elements were simplified or taken out (athletics, etc), but in exchange you got better controls, more refinement, a better planned interface, etc.  It was a better game, even if nostalgia won't let you forget the hundreds of hours you enjoyed on the previous games.

Skyrim might be a good open world game, but its a terrible RPG.

It's not even good at being an open-world game to be honest. Elder Scrolls is basically the Coup DeVille of the gaming world. Too big, and too unrefined.

(In case people are unfamiliar with the Coup Deville)

Elder Scrolls games

Elder Scrolls Games with mods

So Skyrim is a better game because it came out last and gets to benefit from  10 years of advancement of  technology and its easier? Voice acting? Sound effects? Oh wow lol that's a real nice list you picked.. Controls? interface? Are we talking about the Xbox 1 Version here? or PC? The controls and Interface worked great on pc. You can use a lot of those same reasons on games like Super mario bros 3 Vs New super mario bros 2. Zelda OOT Vs Zelda TP. I would still pick the former. Morrowind's hand place items, enemies, dungeons and a difficulty that keeps things interesting past level 1 >>> Pretty graphics Pretty interface Pretty Easy gameplay

Morrowind is a superior game for Better content, game play and character builds that actually matter past level 1, better world building and better loot. Story? Bethesda has never been great in that area. Nostalgia has nothing to do with it, or Oblivion would be the best Elder Scrolls in my eyes. I played fallout 3 before fallout 1 2 & New Vegas and would gladly say they are all superior games vs Fallout3.  (and I played them BECAUSE of my Nostalgia and love of fallout 3)

Were going further off topic here , so if you are going to coninue this take it to a new thread.

Atto Suggests...:

Book - Malazan Book of the Fallen series

Game - Metro Last Light

TV - Deadwood

Music - Forest Swords

It doesn't matter how much new tech & refinement a game has if it doesn't speak to the player. I only bought one COD (Modern Warfare). After that, I didn't feel like buying any more. To me, they all play the same.

Played a little bit of GTA San Andreas in Mexico with family members. I remember they were so into it, but I never understood the concept of stealing & the thug way of lifestyle so that franchise doesn't speak to me.

I played Morrowind for a decent amount of time. I remember feeling a sense of loneliness like It was just me with this vast amount of landscape. I felt like a single man trapped in a dead MMO with no players. Yeah, I could do whatever I wanted, but with little to no level of satisfaction. I tried Fallout 3 and I got the same feeling. I didn't even care for the characters, nor mine; hence, I stopped playing it after 3-4 hours, and I stopped buying games from the developer.

You guys can push your likes on to others, but remember that tastes are personal. I don't expect others to like the same things I like, and in a sense I think that's great.

The menus are worse in skyrim an consolized. You have to use skyui for them to be decent on pc anyways

I hate the artstyle to be honest. It is so Japanese and I am not into Manga / Anime at all.

And the 1 review so far is lower than the metacritic of skyrim. I lol'd.

Holy hell there is actually a person who never watched a Ghibli movie? I feel sorry for you

I feel sorry for people that cant respect other peoples opinions.  The ghibli movies are nothing special unless you are an anime fan.

as far an ni no kuni, it isnt on my radar at the moment.  I do like level 5, but this game just seemed too japanese to me.  I will look into it more when it is released, but as of now Im not interested.  I also think that they are going to have a problem with the name of the game here in the US...

Ghibli movies appeal to everyone, not just anime fans. Thats why Spirited Away is one of the most popular cartoons of this century. It is Japans DIsney.

According to who'm?

http://www.imdb.com/search/title?genres=animation&title_type=feature&num_votes=1000,&sort=user_rating,desc

Nr 1 animated feature on IMDB and most succesful movie in Japanese history, plus it won a bunch of awards including best animated feature in the 75th Academy awards.

There will be a lot more reviews before this goes live. Expect it to settle in at around the 80 - 85% realm.

JRPGs just don't get the broad support they used to anymore. Games like Skyrim, Fallout, Demon/Dark Souls, and Mass Effect are the RPG juggernauts now.

To me, there have been a few solid JRPGs this gen... Eternal Sonata, Tales of Vesperia, Blue Dragon, Lost Odyssey, Xeonblade, Star Ocean, and even the Final Fantasies...

My favorite was Lost Odyssey... But that is because the story was amazing and I value story the most in JRPGs... Combat-wise Final Fantasy has the deepest and best combat system for me this gen.

We will see with this one... You can't judge a game on its first few reviews... When it has 30 reviews putting it over 90% that's when it deserves hype.

Wait, how did a Ni No Kuni thread became a Skyrim thread.
