Forums - Sony Discussion - The Vita is a year old now, how is it doing?

Next year it'll find some consistence and security with a good lineup for the first year, hopefully some grand announcements leading up to/at E3 (another Uncharted and a bunch of smaller 1st party stuff is certain, GTA possible, 3rd party support in general could be terrible or great, we'll see), and of course the price cut.

its doing bad.

Next year will be even worse.

sales wise?

Do you wanna bet? I can make the same bet with you as the one in my sig with MBP if you're up for it.

In terms of sales it is doing awful and is one of the worst selling consoles from a major manufacturer ever; after all, it is selling at half the rate of the PSP and PS3 at a similar point in their life. To make matters worse, as long as the PS-Vita sells at its current level it increases the likelyhood that publishers will reduce/eliminate support for it in the future, which makes it harder for it to mount any kind of a come-back. While I expect a price cut at E3 I think it is a full year too late; and, while sales will improve, the additional 12 months of struggling will result in fewer games being released in 2014 and 2015 which will result in worse sales in those years.

It's selling poorly, which is a shame for such a nifty system. The price is too high and the games just aren't there, I guess.

And they aren't there. You can argue as much as you like (and the comments would suggest people are), and some good points are raised. But it doesn't matter because the average consumer, or 99% of the audience, will not care about when the system was released, they want the library now. It is unfair, yes, but I see few system sellers in the foreseeable future. And that will be the problem. A number of niche games or moderate hits won't sell the system, and isn't that the point?

Wrong, its also because of that kind of " i guess" totaly wrong that Vita doesnt sell like it worth.

3DS hits in one year : Mario kart, mario 3D land. Thats all for the exclusives games.

Vita exclusive hits in one year : Uncharted Golden Abyss, Wipeout 2048, Gravity RUsh, Little Big Planet, Ragnarok Odyssey, AC liberation

And nobody had a problem with 3DS  first year, so stop the bullshit with vita just because of "poor sales ".

Well why are the sales so poor?

Because according to you it's got a dreamteam lineup.

In reality, the "public" see those games you've mentioned for the Vita as watered down ports, even if they really aren't.

Yes, the line up is very good in quality terms, its a fact, but its not a line up with enough best seller, its the big default .

I dont believe that they see those games like down ports, because Uncharted and AC made great sales.

Sony has already many great exclusves games, but there are  not enough system seller , they need something bigger, bigger name like GTA/MH, AC was a good little start (in 7 weeks, his sales are near from the sales of RE 3DS released one year ago )

(Maybe some people dont know, so ill repeat :If Mario makes better sales than any games, it doestn mean that NSMB is the best game ever, it just means that everybody love mario ( but its far from the quality of games like Okami, but this kind of game cant be a big success because its too much speciail, like Gravity Rush ).

Same for monster hunter, etc. )

Predictions for end of 2014 HW sales:

 PS4: 17m   XB1: 10m    WiiU: 10m   Vita: 10m

I agree with the above ^

Problem is it's not really about good exotic games, it's about good mainstream games....of which, very few.

Sales Wise very bad, but as with its specs and games i hear nothing but good things! I personally want to play gravity rush! Looks badass...

As long as you don't mind a free roaming game with nothing to do (apart from time trial runs and collecting orbs) and a game with nice mechanics that you'll keep reusing over and over again, you'll enjoy it. It's just long enough, Kat is a totally lovable character but unfortunately, you'd have seen everything by the time you're halfway through the game.

On topic, I agree with those that say the Vita is selling what it's price allows it to sell. It would probably do much better if both models were $50 cheaper.
