how many copies of RE6 actually sold out of the 4.5m shipped?

3.6 according to VGChartz.

Their projections were always way too high about the game though. At one point they expected it to sell 10 million. The problem is, the game wasnt as good has they  expected it to be. I think there were marketing problems in comparison to RE5 where there was a strong component of sex-appeal drawing in consumers, but also because of the terrible choice of controls and subsequant bad reviews. Its not a bad game im sure, and i am gonna get it still but i wasnt pleased with what i tried with the demo. Why do Japanese always feel the need to reinvent the wheel just cause it was invented by westerners? I know its dificult to admit to them, but the Gear of War/Mass effect controls are as best as 3rd person shooters get. Difficult to copy the controle scheme i suppose.

In my opinion though, they should've kept to the RE4/5 formula of tanks controls. Its their trademark, it works. RE revelations was awesome with it aswell. RE6 just took a wrong turn. Its time to back up and steer the franchise in a different direction that what they did.

Oh calling it a flop is an exageration though. It didnt perform as good as expectated but it was still a sucess.

GoW' scheme wouoldn't exist without RE4, so I think your causation might be a bit confused.

I see the debate you want to have here, but i cant be bothered if you're gonna be like this. I am obviously talking about the cover mechanics. RE4 didnt have them. Thank you.

Spot on. Seeing as how the game likely made a lot of profit, I don't see how it's not a success, or how it's a failure.

Haven't we been over this? If Capcom had to cut its revenue projections because of this game's performance, then it's a failure. Much like Wii Music was almost definitely a failure even though it almost definitely scored a healthy net profit for Nintendo.

Definition of flop:

Box office bomb:

The term box office bomb or flop generally refers to a film that is viewed as highly unsuccessful or unprofitable during its theatrical run, sometimes preceding hype regarding its production, cost or marketing efforts.[1][2] To earn this distinction, the film must also fail to earn more than the reported cost of its production, distribution and marketing by a wide margin.[3]

Gauging the financial success of a film is difficult, and because there is no definitive definition, what makes Box-office bomb can be very subjective. Not all films that fail to earn back their estimated costs during their theatrical runs are bombs,[2] and the label is generally applied to films that miss earnings projections by a wide margin, particularly when they are very expensive to produce, and sometimes in conjunction with middling or poor reviews (though critical reception has nothing to do with box office performance).[4]

Its somewhat inconclusive. It did miss the projections but it did earn more than the reported cost it took to produce. Its a very loose concept.

I guess both conclusions can be valid. It is a flop if you look at projections, it isnt if you think its made substancial profit.

Yes pretty much this, thank you.

It's FAR from a flop. But yeah sales aren't breaking any records.

Doesn't that mean wii-u's a flop? By that definition.

It was a good game, the change the series went through was needed, after playing the first 3 then code X while all where great games it started to get a little plain with the same game styles.

Different with consoles because of a longer lifespan and more grand-strategy stuff (you may not have met your own financial projections, but did outmaneuver competitors, etc.), while most games have largely burnt themselves out by the first financial reporting period.

Likely Capcom just needs to make the mainline games more like Revelations.

Capcom, naming this game RESIDENT EVIL is a disgrace to the series!
