I feel like this would be a good move for a future design of the system.  They would have to continue to make sure that it wasn't multitouch because that would mean enhanced capabilities and fragmenting the fanbase if developers take advantage in future games.  However I would like it because after playing with it a little it did seem a little unresponsive compared to my phone.

It's not that it's unresponsive, it works on a different tech so you need to put a little more pressure into it rather than thinking it will work like current smart phones, but not too much, it's not like the original DS lol.... it's about as good as a 3DS if you have one of those. The problem with those capacitive multi touch remains that they are inaccurate as hell and can be frustrating for gaming.

If it makes it more accurate then lets do it!

it wouldn't, capactive might make touch with your fingers slightly more responsive, but not enough to be that noticeable.  However, you would lose the very precise stylus touch.

Capactive touch screens really only make sense if you are adding multi touch.  However, like the OP said, Nintendo can't really do that without fracturing their base.  So, basically, you would lose more than you would gain if Nintendo did this.

you really want to pull out your stylus in the middle of a game all the time?  I would rather use my fingers.

The stylus is positioned right next to the shoulder button.  If you wanted to use your fingers, you would have to take your hand off of the shoulder button and touch it (where as the stylus you can pull it out as you remove your hand from the shoulder button).  It isn't really that big of a deal at all.

so use it, I do it all the time, I have only ever once used my stylus and that was for drawing on Miiverse :)

Just like you do with your hand when you're done.  Your point?

Capacitive is much better but it also costs more. I think it was stupid for Nintendo to go with single touch, but because of that decision resistive is good enough.

The problem with resistive touch screen is not that it's inferior in function compared to capacitive since it can also be made to use multi touch, the problem is that since it has to work with pressure, the screen is more exposed to damage unlike capacitive where you can just slap a gorilla glass on top of it.

Another question you might have is since there is a multi touch version of resistive touch, why didn't Nintendo use it? It's actually relatively new so it'd cost more, and it actually works better than capacitive touch screens.

You have to insert it into and take it out of a tiny slot every time.  Requires more distraction than using your finger any day.

There are protective screens for the capacitive screen too, isn't there?

Or, alternatively, you can set the stylus down.  I really don't see this as an issue.  Plus, you can still use your fingers on the Wii U's touch screen if you want.

absolutely, but you actually don't really need it for the most part if it's the newer gorilla glass ones, they are fucking tough lol. I just hate how inaccurate and sensitive they are and you can fuck up your touch register really easily with capacitive.
