The problem with resistive touch screen is not that it's inferior in function compared to capacitive since it can also be made to use multi touch, the problem is that since it has to work with pressure, the screen is more exposed to damage unlike capacitive where you can just slap a gorilla glass on top of it.
Another question you might have is since there is a multi touch version of resistive touch, why didn't Nintendo use it? It's actually relatively new so it'd cost more, and it actually works better than capacitive touch screens.

There are protective screens for the capacitive screen too, isn't there?
