I have seen a few for Wonderbook and LBP Karting. I'm sure we will see more, next year when there bigger exclusives are coming out.

Starhawk was great to play, but the Online was the best part. The only problem with it was that, it was nothing like Warhawk. Twisted Metal, I hate the controls and I don't know why. I played the hell out of Black and I think that was the best part of buying the game at release.

I think Sony is final making a profit again and that's why we are see a bit more advertisements from them as of lately. I also see a few Vita Advertisements, but those were mainly for AC3:L.

I think PlayStation All-Stars will sell based off of word of Mouth and doesn't really need Ads, but they could help.

I hope Last of Us, Beyond, Sly, Puppeteer, and God of War get some serious ads in every region.  They look like they're gonna deserve some good sales and I don't remember seeing a single ad for Heavy Rain despite it selling over 2 million.  Imagine what Last of Us and Beyond can do with some good ads.  Advertising Sly could get a younger crowd too and God of War doesn't have the hype a God of War game should after 3's numbers.  We'll see they may have a price cut early next year to $199 and really explode in sales with all these exclusives even after PS4 is announced.

I seen a bit few of poster for Heavy rain in New York, while taking the train back in 2010 or around the time of release. I think that is how I found out about the game, I then went home to look it up and fell in love with it. Beyond: Two Souls is a day one.

I expect Sony to go all out with Ads for The Last of Us and God of War, because those to will pull in some big numbers for both the sales of the game and the console. I expect a bundle for Sly cooper around launch, I know it sucks for me to say it, but as you said it "could get the younger crowd."

I hope for a price cut before the launch of Ni No Kuni, but I think one will come after March 31st. Thats when they report their quarterly earnings or lose.

Well Infamous 2 was boring, Resistance 3 came after the utterly terrible Resistance 2 which burned a lot of people and Twisted Metal was always niche. This is hardly the stuff for a great marketing campaign really.

Twisted Metal sold millions on PSone and Black even sold millions on PS2 despite becoming niche.  Now it sells half a million with no support.  Should have been more heavily advertised.  Infamous 2 was awesome and all the more reason to advertise 3 through gameplay and improvements to get people to check it out and see how much better it got.

Think about ROI for a second here. What is more likely to have a greater return on investment, spending $15 M advertising God of War 4 or $5 M each for those other titles?

Tease.

some games are not meant to sell millions upon millions no matter how much money you spend on advertisement

Bet reminder: I bet with Tboned51 that Splatoon won't reach the 1 million shipped mark by the end of 2015. I win if he loses and I lose if I lost.

I like the variety of games i can find on the playstation platforms, and that is a huge reason why I am a fan of playstation and Sony. But it is a shame that many of these great games go unnoticed, and don't get the sales that they deserve.

Tv Advertisement is important, but how effective is it really? I mean what does a tv commercial really tell a possible consumer? Most are not even in-game trailers, only last about 15 seconds, don't show me the story I am doing to take or the characters I am gonna meet. It does however tell me that it exist. But wouldn't word of mouth be a better vehicle for this?

Some of the best games I have played in my live have been small budget pc games that got to me via youtube. I have seen developer walkthrough of these games and it has been the creators who sell me. I have been playing games for many years, I can tell bullshit from PR people the moment they finish their sentence. Developers interviews and walkthrough have been more honest and modest in their pitch. People that have a clear picture of their vision and are passionate enough about the game are better at selling than someone that read a memo. Now, how can you do that for the mass market? no idea...

I think Sony's view on their games is different than other companies. I think they see games as part of their portfolio, and not a single product that defines them. I have noticed recently the huge amount of movies Sony Pictures makes, while some are awesome and some are not, none have gained the level of Avatar or the Avengers. Skyfall almost reached that level. I think it is Sony's self identity that mandates this amount of content. The cost of having this much content of course is that they can't spend money on advertisement like the competition does.

I think they need to think of another way to sell their games, and not match Microsoft or Nintendo's tv ads efforts because they will be outspent. ideas?

sony have pushed the boat out on TV ads recently. far more than anyone else.

No they havent, just Uncharted 3 and the Vita. The problem is their budget is primarily used to make games and everything else comes second. With Microsoft its the opposite, marketing > games.

Yes there has.

You dont live where I live. I notice you only replied to my post and not everyone else saying the same as me.

I'm flattered.

Playstation products have seen unprecedented advertsising this holidays in the UK, seriously huge amounts.  Far more than Ninty and MS combined.  Seen a little bit of Ninty and virtually none from MS.

I doubt that. Im willing to bet Sonys marketing budget isnt a quarter of Microsofts. Microsofts budget to advertise Windows 8 alone is crazy.

@Platform

I don't think advertising is problem, I think it's the game itself. The games you mentioned to me sound/look boring. More specifically, the premise of the games don't interest me. Gameplay, graphics...these things are important, but so is the theme. If someone said to me "In this game, you get to play as Batman in an open-world style where every villian from his history is trying to escape from Arkam Asylum. Use his gadgets and skills and stop them!" Sold! Infamous...whatever it is... not so much.

However, I find it interesting that you say they are "deserving" of more sales. We could play a game and you could change my mind on those undersold franchises. I am Sony's ideal potential customer. I like most types of games. I have low brand loyalty. I don't own a PS3(yet) mostly because it was cheaper early on to buy both a wii and an XBox than 1 PS3. I'm a former happy PS2 gamer. I've played and enjoyed GoW, and Uncharted sounds interesting. Can you describe Infamous or Resistence in one or two sentences that make it sound awesome? I would describe GoW as "Play as Kratos, a warrior from ancienct Greece who must battle the God of War using his unique chained blades. Find treasure and upgrade your powers as you battle through a beautifully created world inspired by greek mythology in an incredible mix of classic action and adventure". Can you make those games sound good? If so I might go out and buy that nice-looking new white PS3 and some games!

I live in.Germany and the.only.ads I see are from Sony and many of Just Dance 4.

Yes there has.  Even in this thread you must have a dig at MS.  Get over it. (def get rid of the green - its ridiculous)

They have mentioned on the past that they were going to try to increase advertisement spending. this holyday however was the wrong one. Their offering is not the best they have had. January first they should shift to sixth gear with Ni Ni Kuni, sly 4, and god of war, and the Last of Us.

The only ads I see are the ads Assassin's Creed: Liberation, Playstation AllStars Battle Royale and Far Cry 3. The only one that actually gives enough indication of it being a video game is Far Cry 3...which is multiplatform. Sony really need to advertise their games instead of showing "Real life" trailers.

agreed and the European Allstars ad was way better than the NA one.  Also they should advertise Drake, Sackboy, Kratos, and Sweet Tooth rather than people like Fat Princess and Cole which aren't nearly as popular.  Now once the game is sold on the big guns those other characters can get noticed through it and then you advertise their next game heavily to draw on that interest (Kid Icarus scenario).

could you give me a link to the Battle Royale NA commercial

ok I will just quote you because you called Resistance 2 Terrible...

Because its an awesome game. I dont care if "Fans" got burned because the game stands on its own and is a very very great game.

+ The ending is absolute wonderful. Man my heart pumped so hard. great experience

(R3 is amazing btw)

Also Infamous 2 is a great game ^^
