Nintendo handled the production/supply issue just about right for the Wii U launch. If I remember, it was the same for the 3DS as well. Quite a change from the botched DSl and Wii releases during which retailers couldn't keep inventory on hand for well over a year after debut.
When a company's products are being flipped months after release at a healthy mark up, it's less of a sign of overwhelming success as it is money left on the table by the manufacturer in terms of initial pricing on each unit sold.
Thankfully, the whole distasteful flipping trend looks to be taking a pass this time, at least for the Wii U, meaning more legit consumers who actually want to buy one to play with will be able to find one conveniently at MSRP in retail outlets.
