Forums - Sony Discussion - Should Sony buy Sega

How amazing would the games be

Epic 43 28.10%

Awesome 19 12.42%

Okay 20 13.07%

No difference -_- 71 46.41%

Total:153

Don't really see much point in it.

Yakuza, Valkyria Chronicles and Miku already release on Sony consoles. Multi-plats like Sonic; Aliens; the 'Virtua' games etc. make their way across anyway.

Total War & Football Manager don't work on consoles (just leave them on PC releases with SOE I suppose).

Otherwise, does Sega have much else of value? Would just be un-necessary spending for Sony to secure a couple of franchises as exclusives that they're already getting. Seems a waste.

Where's all this talk of buying Sega come from anyway? Are they being sold? I'll have to get all their games off PSN before they disappear if so!

Sony buying Sega? Unlikely. Sony is on the verge of being bought by some other company. After the Sony stock went junk they are probably low on cash.

I don't think sega will be that much use to sony, hardly any of segas games are what they used to be and I doubt sony would do much to change that.

I've bought 3 Sega games in the past 18 months. I seem to be part of the minority, but I like Sega's games.

hell no. Don't get me wrong..sega has brought some wonderful games and I have some that I absolutely adore but nah it's not really worth it imho.

They SHOULD however buy the valkyria chronicles IP. Won't cost them much I think. The IP has so much potential..quality AND sales wise

I would agree with you if Sony would stop fucking around and actually start making some JRPG titles.

iPhone = Great gaming device. Don't agree? Who cares, because you're wrong.

Currently playing:

Final Fantasy VI (iOS), Final Fantasy: Record Keeper (iOS) & Dragon Quest V (iOS)

eh, if somebody can bring back shining force in all of its glory I would be in. Although, I doubt Sony would be looking to aquire such a large publisher, especially in their current financial situation.

The only console maker I could see making that purchase would be microsoft, but I doubt they would since they are so dead in japan. More likely sega stays independent or gets picked up by another game publisher rather then a hardware maker.

I could potentially see Nintendo buying SEGA, as the original rumored stated...

maybe, definitely more likely than sony.  However, Nintendo already has a huge first party development roster, they don't really need it, same with Sony.  I see Sony and Nintendo more focused on improving their studios and maybe picking of the lone independent developer here or there.  The only console maker I see that would make such a large purchase is microsoft.  They are the only ones with both the need and the money...

yeah that's one area they lack severely at the moment. I mean a game like Valkyria Chronicles really won't cost that much to make right? They should totally get the rights and make the game. I sure hope scej is working on an RPG for either vita or PS4 now. (action RPG please)

If anyone was going to buy, the very expensive, Sega it would be Microsoft.

I would rather Sony pick off IP's. If SEGA went bankrupt and started selling everything and Sony got Sega I would see what Insomniac could do with it.

And let them do their thing like Sony allows their 1st party studios. Sega would have much needed financial aid. Many lost Sega franchises would be revived and everyone would be happy. Both Sega and Sony are the companies with the most innovative games.

Ofcourse games would be Playstation exclusive, and PC, via Gaikai.

Sega+Sony are a killer combo.

uh.... I think Sony kinda needs that too man.
