Forums - Sales Discussion - If PS4 finally has cross game chat/party, PS4 wins next generation.

Cross chat is a hardware and software issue. The PS3 cannot handle it because of their hardware, therefore, their online is already pretty dead on equal already. The PS4 they will have it on par so it really doesnt need to even be talked about. Third of all, Sony and Valve will most likely be working on continuing cross platform and any valve titles that were exclusive to the Xbox 360 will no longer maintain that level of exclusivity from the PS4. Left 4 Dead 3 PS4, just wait. Microsoft doesnt want to open themselves up to cross platforming, so they will be behind if they dont change their ways and Sony will be ahead is some respects.

i dont think that is true. what part of ps3 can not handle cross game chat? I think it may atually be a patent of somekind that MS holds for home consoles but not for portables.or it may be due to the fact the every game on the 360 has to be tied in and intregrated with xbox live. not sure that is the same on ps3. with different games perhaps using different techniques for voice chat it may make it harder to do cross game chat (something that they obviously fixed in the vita). But i dont see how it would be a hardware problem.

Microsoft does not hold that patent, the Vita has it. Sony admitted it is a memory issue. The Vita has more ram than the PS3 which is why it can handle it. Cross chat is something PC gamers use all the time, so no it is not patented and can be used by anyone at will. Xbox Live is basically just a closed PC gaming replica that Microsoft makes you pay for. Sony is proving that you can have all that and really shouldnt have to pay.

I'm sure justification of live will still be present even if PSN gets every one of its features.

just out of curiosity, what does live offer that PSN doesnt? other than cross game chat on the ps3

I meant that others will justify it regardless. We will hear things like it is still a great service but PSN is simply a better deal so its a matter of choice ect ect. Nothing will change if PS4 gets cross game chat.

but im just honestly asking what live offers, i dont care if people think ps+ is a better deal lol i just really wanna know what services they offer,i know its off topic lol :P

The only two things I can think of are

1. Friends play it so its better for that reason and

2. Its more fluid than PSN. Other then that they are pretty much similar and those reasons can apply to PSN as well.

like i said i am not 100% sure. pc gamers dont use cross game chat, they use a third program that connects them regardless of a game. slightly different as its a seperate sytem from the game and not intrigrated. Unless steam has added it recently most people i know use skype or something similar.  Upon further reading though it looks like the ram is an issue, but I think the real issue is the lack of the PSN to require that all games use their way of doing things, like ms forces devs to do with the xbox live. once a game takes it resources its no longer linked to the os and internet in the same way live is a tied in unified sytem. so  the ram is more of a scapegoat as it is strong enough, but wasn't designed from the begining software wise like live was. So your point stands

I've never ever used "cross game chat" . In fact, I don't think I ever will either. I didn't even know it existed until a few months ago.

Eh? Cross game chat is the only reason xbox has sold 15 million more consoles than the ps3 in the us? Really? That really does not make sense... At alll...

Cross game chat is certainly a nice feature, but I would never call it system selling. At most, I would say it might convince people that own both an xbox and a ps3 to buy the game on the xbox if they subscribe to gold.

Cross game chat is going to be the last feature people will be looking for next gen. People are going to be looking at what the consoles do that is new, and innovative...

Thats not exactly true.  There have been seceral cross platform titles come out on the 360, they just kind of fizzled out.  I would say A more accurate statement would be microsoft isnt open to encouraging the steam.

Cross platforming has allready proven to be a dead end. MS tried it with some titles like Lost Planet Colonies, Shadowrun, Universe at War, etc.  The PC gamers have an unfair advantage.
