Success, yes, but it's also monopolised the genre to the point where most other MMORPGs have had to go free-2-play just to stay relevant.

Half-Life 2 on the other hand has greatly influenced the FPS genre as well as general storytelling in games.

that was the point of my post read it properly. im looking at the award objectively in terms of real facts. I said i didnt like wow and claimed it deserves the award

Yup and the AI had to be one of the worst I've ever seen and people who played the game would agree.

The games you play must have some incredible AI then, lol.

You got to be messing with me if that is incredible AI because it commonly agree that is a rbem with HL2

Read again. If Half-Life 2 is the worst AI you've seen, then the AI in the games you've played must be incredible.

The AI in Half-Life 2 is average at worst. To be honest, I can only think of a few games in the genre with clearly better AI. The rest are about the same level.

I can say the first HL have the worst AI, seriously those guards that you find along the way are the worst, the only good thing they do is open doors xD

Uhm...no. It is still today some of the most advanced AI and at the time was a real breakthrough.

A old thread I remember from gamespot even the most hardcore at the time agreed the AI sucked.

If you want quotes just ask but you read and see that's it's agreed on.

 

btw you said name the most advance AI which had nothing to do with it just sucking. The game didn't need to be advance AI it just didn't need to suck.

He has a point though.

Half-Life 2 has since been at least equalled in terms of quality (although it's still the best for it's time) but WoW is still easily the best MMORPG out there and it doesn't look like anything can dethrone it. Even Guild Wars 2 did not have a big enough impact and it was the one having the highest odds.

I disagree, the guards could also shoot head crabs and zombies. The scientists though... all PhDs and all they could do was open doors!

The best or simply the most popular? At this stage, it doesn't matter what the quality is, people are invested in the game & expansions.

Half-life 2 deserved it, it revolutionized the FPS and story telling abilities when it launched in 2004. Add Counter-Strike: Source to that and you have the best online FPS experienced created until COD. No other game changed the industry as much as Half-Life 2 did back in 2004, hence game of the decade.

Of course all these console kiddies didn't play the port until 2007, so they wouldn't know or understand what I am talking about.

Don't compare to console games from 2007+, it officially launched in 2004 and development began in 1998. No game touched its quality from 2000 - 2007, at least arguably.

I honestly never seen them killing other enemies, they just shoot like crazy lol. I just kill them unless I need them to open doors....after the door is open I killed the guard :p. But yeah the doctors are the worst xD
