Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Will Japan save Nintendo and the Wii U like they did with the 3DS?

Why save Nintendo? Yes the Wii U did horrible in Europe (although that could possible be because of manufacturing issues) but it did respectable numbers in NA.

Overall I think the whole gen of the Wii U will probably be like this:

Japan: amazing

America: good

Europe: good or bad (most likely the latter)

Edit: besides there's only been 1 week for Europe and 2 week for America, stop jumping the gun so soon. The new year will be interesting to see the numbers.

Seond week sales plummeted for the wii u. You cannot blame stock issues like Nintendo surely will in the coming weeks. I have seen it in stock everywhere.

Bad marketing, high price, and a bad taste left in gamers mouths fromm the wii have hurt the wii u early on. But the same thing happened with the 3DS (maybe some different reasons) and Japan saved it.

Will they be able to save the wii u as well?

The expensive premium IS sold out fast.. but shops get new stocks all the time.. (thats why u can see it somewhere)

And issent there sold more than 6 mill. 3ds in us..?..

Ont. I'm will bet anything. that wii u will be like the 3ds..  when the mainstream kids and parents.. realice that this is a new console.. we will see why nintendo are the kings of videogame land.. (i think)

I reckon that Mario, NintendoLand, Monster Hunter will do wonders for Wii U, but at the same time i don`t think it has that many games that do in fact attract the japanese gamers. It seems to have too many western games that normally don`t do all that well over there.
I hope that Nintendo has learnt from the mistakes with 3DS and prepared Wii U`s schedule for after launch.

2 weeks in and the doom threads are already starting again.. where have i seen this before?

On topic. It's Japan line up is killer, so it might do OK there.

That has always been the big question about Wii U.

Will western third parties support it ? or they will ignore it when PS4/X720 launches ?

Another interresting question is if the economic climate was the deciding factor in the downfall of the Vita, and if that is the case, could it affect the HD sucessors in a similar way?

Economy may have impact in Vita sales, but a higher price point than its main competitor(3DS), expensive storage cards and the lack of support from developers have more to do with its poor sales.

Btw, I think anything beyond $399 will hurt PS4/X720 sales. The subscription sales model will be huge next gen.

Does it need saving? You'd think after everything that transpired this last generation, everyone would be more patient and less quick to jump to conclusions.

Remember the psp wa king up until the 3ds came. Then there were two players for a while. The trnasition was about a year before the 3DS started to hammer the competition. Although the wii u line up is much brighter than the 3ds launch. Although that did not seem to help here or in europe much.

All the bad news and talk regarding tech specs and online features (your ID is locked to 1 console) of the console crippled the european launch.

As always, Sony and Microsoft will have the ultimate say with that question. My thought is, if their next-gen systems are about 5 to 10 times as powerful as their current systems, the Wii U will receive most of the multiplatform hits. THis is likely if they try to aim for under $400 at launch. If they pull another 599 US dollars though, that will hurt both them AND the Wii U.

Love and tolerate.

lol, guys. huge drop on 2nd week is a standart for almost every console in the market... wii dropped hard too. And not just shortages matters here, buyers activity dropping after bf and old consoles usually selling better. look for charts from another years, we're on vgcharts!

in Japan there's going to be a huge drop 2nd week (like wii etc). It's normal... Will Wii U be successful or not - only time will tell. I mean, just let's wait and see till the end of the march. It had great opening with 425K (Wii 475 in 2006)

also, a lot of gamers enjoying and loving their wiiUs. internet is not the entire world, lol. there's a lot of great comments about it, too.
