Oh gosh I love how on the internet anyone can act like an expert. If these writers are as smart as they claim, Microsoft should hire them.

That doesn't mean they are flat out wrong, but it does mean this article is moronic (I love that word). Ken Hess's possible redemption is that he wrote this for internet fanboys and not for the educated.

I can think of few companies who WOULDN'T want to be in Microsofts position right now.

No thinking person is saying that the company is doomed at all.

Rather, a lot of times what happens with these very large companies is that they have problems for a number of years before really facing financial hardship, as is the case with Sony. All you are seeing now, if anything, are the first ripples that could be showing us some big problems for the company in the future.

if you are not Apple,Samsung or Google, you are doomed.

Anyway me I approach the issue the other way..... if MS disappeared tomorrow who today can pick up the market..... the open software world can't make it alone.... and apple is even more a joke as a replacement..... you could put every single industry apple is in (phone, pc, laptop, tablet) and they still don't dent the empire MS has today....
Because let's be honest beside nice aluminum boxes for basic customers and maybe some solutions for schools now and final cut.... what does apple do?????? Nothing.... MS it's the single most dominant software company present in every field from the auto mobile industry, the military, office productivity, entertainment, heck soon your home will run on MS software.... it's way more subsidiaries than apple and oracle combined have.... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_companies_acquired_by_Microsoft_Corporation and that's counting the money invested in others (including apple back in the late 90s even though they do not have cash in it)....

Microsoft has had a golden age. Their weakness is the web. Microsoft got there ass wiped in the mobile space. The winners overthere might be able beat Microsoft at their own game. The reason why microsoft is so powerfull is because of their past. There lies the problem its about the future. Microsoft still exists in 10 years its just that they didnt have any competition. Now they will my bet is that they cant pull off a monopoly again.

Just my opinion, but i really think they should ditch the Surface.
