Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Some Wii U vs Wii launch comparisons (Sales)

Very interesting comparison indeed! Will you update all of this, or make a new thread, when we have complete EU data as well?? And now when Wii U has entered it 3rd week we should be able to compare 2 weeks of Wii vs Wii U..?

Furthermore, I think VGChartz should add a "Like"-button.

Yeah, I doubt that as well...

Console launches are usually set in stone, the interesting part is longterm sales. And this is where we'll see the vast differences (9-10 million first year kind of difference).

Great comparison, thanks for making it.

It's great that the Wii U is somewhat comparable to the Wii in its launch, but we all know that what happens from now on is really what makes the difference... I wonder if the Wii U will be comparable after a year. :/

Good one! Interesting comparison on TP and Mario. The hype for TP though was waaaaay more, plus the ability to sword fight with the Wii mote got people hyped I remember. Wii had a magnificent launch lineup

Yeah, I'm having my worries as well... I guess it all kinda depends on what PS720 will be like, and that's never a good position to be in; letting the competition dictate how well you will do!

What do you think of... ZombiWorld for when it goes multi plat? :p

Yeah, it won't sell to that level at retail, maybe 750,000 to 1.25 million at full retail price (over the next year) and another 250,000 to 750,000 at discount prices over the rest of the generation; and to get the high sales at discount prices, both consumers and publishers have to be willing to use the eshop like Steam, and see "sales" or discounts to a level where a 3 year old game that has already seen 2 sequels released in a highly attractive purchase ($5 to $10).

you know this is activision were talking about right?

The Wii was massively understocked compared to demand, I think Nintendo easily could've sold 2-3x more in 2006 if they actually provided hardware to stores.

With Wii U, I get the sense this is not the case at all, Nintendo is selling basically right at the level of demand I think.
