Myamoto is still one of the best developer in the world when it comes to techniqual quality of his games.

But statesments such as this one makes me think that he maybe should retire and that Nintendo could do better w/o him in today's age of gaming. He seems just way to much out of touch with today's gamers. He can't realise that gamers want story and are tired of the lame ass ''bowser kidnap peach'' all the time. Skyward Sword was the best Zelda IMO because of it's storytelling and as far as I know Myamoto did'nt do much, it was mostly Aonuma's work. I think he's the cause of the so few new IP and so many cliché games that comes from Nintendo. (blashphemy, I know! Can't believe myself I'm saying this)

Hey, I love the Paper Marios. Two of my favorite RPGs (haven't gotten around to playing Super Paper Mario yet). But let's be honest: it's not Final Fantasy or Xenoblade or something with a really powerful story like most JRPGs. Somebody kidnaps Peach, Mario has to save her. There are some good characters, but only "good" compared to characters in the Mario platformers (which are mostly nonexistent); they don't hold up terrifically well when the game is compared to more plot-heavy RPGs.

What Paper Mario really has going for it is its aesthetic, its unique brand of slapstick humor, and its engaging gameplay, most of which I think is preserved in Sticker Star. Its writing IS good, but for its wit, not its drama.

The one concerning thing to me in that interview was Miyamoto telling them not to make new characters, but that may have been a matter of them approaching a deadline with a game that wasn't shaping up very well -- they had to focus on refining the gameplay, not making up new characters and trying to fit them into a game that was turning out to be "boring."



None of the Paper Mario's had amazing stories if you compare them to other RPG's. Paper Mario has a story that is leagues better than most Mario games, but its still small. Besides big emotional stories wouldn't really fit all to well into Mario's worlds.

And Paper Mario: Sticker Star is a great game. It still has witty dialogue and fun gameplay.
Though it is sad that Miyamoto things we don't "appreciate" story.

You may think Skyward Sword was the best Zelda, but it's one of the weaker selling ones. I believe it's pulling in Majora numbers, which is...not great.



You have only the fans, such as yourselves, to blame for that. We shape (for the most part) the direction that a sequel can take. It may not seems like they listen to the players, but I'm sure they are racking up all kinds of feedback.

Don't, do not, lump all fans together. Fans of a company or game have different tastes for a game.

A story is not measured merely by the number of cutscenes, the length of cutscenes, the number of plot twists, or how in depth it is. Some of my favorite stories are rather short ones. In fact, one of my favorite stories is a short story called "The Most Dangerous Game." It's only a few pages long but it's one of the coolest stories I've ever heard.

Yes, I loved the stories in the first two Paper Mario games, and I thought they were beautifully done (not overdone but with enough content that it really engaged me).

Drama makes better stories? Aw crap... I missed that somewhere.

It's not just the slapstick humor that makes the stories good in Paper Mario. In fact, I find that to actually be one of the cheekier and less engaging aspects of the stories, although fun.



I'm probably one of the few people that will stand up for Super Paper Mario. I have played all Paper Mario games (except Sticker Star which I eventually will) and I have enjoyed them all. I mainly enjoy it for the gameplay and funny jokes. Every game in the series to me is basically Super Mario RPG with different villain and gameplay ideas.

I figured i wouldn't have to put the generic (but not all fans) but if they majority of the fans of the series were not interested in story, that's whats gonna have the most influence when making the game. The vast majority of Paper Mario fans spoke and apparently, based on what I have read here, they don't give two shits about story.

They are club Nintendo members only. Hence why I said I wanted it burned to the ground
