You may care about the story but the majority don't. Mario wants to save the princess and that's all they really need to know....

I think they can only blame themselves for it, Mario is known as a platformer, pick up and play, not a deep RPG with emotional stories.

No wonder Paper Mario flopped.

I'm sure it will sell beyond 1m and you are very misinformed on this issue.  Why it isn't doing well is because it isnt like the 1st 2 paper mario games that excelled in gameplay.  Sticker Star just doesnt excel.

OK, this is an "average" game that sold the exact same amount as PS: All Stars FW yet now you're sure this game will reach 1m? What's the difference?

uhm mario is the difference.  If All stars had mario then I'd predict differently.  People see mario on a boxart and are like "oooooh mario"  They look at all stars and they're like "hmm, what is this"

You know it's true lol

If only that were true. That's another sub-par Mario game on the same system.

It should sell over a million.

This game flopped on all accounts going by Nintendo fans' standards

lol you are correct.  The game is bad and sells likely wont be too good either.

I want to burn club Nintendo to the ground.

@OP: Remember that story has always been secondary for Miyamoto. His begins with the basic gameplay and adds on a story afterward. I actually think that's the ideal way to develop games, but I understand those who disagree.

I don't believe there is a single ideal way.  That's kind of like saying there is an ideal way to have fun.  It varies completely depending on the person.  I grew up as a book-worm, well-defined storytelling and characters are extremely important to me.  Personally, I'll usually take a game with a great story and/or characters and average game-play over a game with great gameplay but with a shallow, meaningless story.  This might sound crazy, but I much prefer a game without characters, like a pong type, over a game with flat characters.  Flat characters and a throw-away plot absolutely kill my desire to finish a game.  I've owned three Mario games and haven't finished a single one--keep in mind that those were NES/SNES games, when I was solidly a Nintendo fan.

Different structures resonate with different people, it's as simple as that.  Shallow platformers made me drift away from gaming with the SNES but RPGs brought me back.  The last two generations have definitely been my favorite, though the Atari skill-based gaming period without characters/story is a close second.

Why doesn't anyone like Paper Mario: Sticker Star?

I like it. I like to bash and criticise it so much so that people will just skip over a perfectly fine game.

Imagine the sadness when they found out what they've been missing out 10 years from now when they finally get to play it.

This is good news and bad news. The good news is that nintendo actually does listen to us when we want something!

The bad news is that they chose the wrong kind of game and the wrong kind of criticism -.-

Why did he base what people liked by SPM when Sticker star is closer to being like Thousand year door?
Why must they change the game what is wrong with making a proper paper mario 3? Thousand year door was awesome. I still play it from time to time

Tag:I'm not bias towards Nintendo. You just think that way (Admin note - it's "biased".  Not "bias")
(killeryoshis note - Who put that there ?)
Switch is 9th generation. Everyone else is playing on last gen systems! UPDATE: This is no longer true

Congratulations! You are now in the 1%

Personaliy, I woudn't mind seeing stories removed from video games all together. They are nothing but a crutch for people who can't make games.

Are you seriously saying people who play RPGs for stories only fall into 1% of RPG players? And game stories are crutches? Well, I guess someone who doesn't like stories would say something like that. Sorry Jesus, but you have no idea what you're talking about.

No, as should be clear from the context, I said he's among the 1% of people who cares about the story in Paper Mario.

And yes, I think that stories in games are used as crutches by people incapable of designing a good game because they lack the creative ability to do so. The same goes for graphics by the way. Please be advised that I use the term 'game' for what it is, the actual rules that define the game experience. Anything else is fluff and presentation. By this metric most RPGs are the same game with some changes to the names and visuals.

Some people love to see the art of storytelling merged with the art of game making. I don't care for it myself, but that doesn't mean I don't know what I'm talking about.

I don't think Soriku realized who he's messing with XD

It's not terrible, and the mechanics take a while to really click, but it is probably the weakest of the three so far (end of World 3...and have been for over a week).

Club Nintendo!? I just choose random shit so I can hurry up and get my coins! I didn't know they were paying attention!!

Usually, they say "Why did you buy this game?" (Check all that apply)

Tucked somewhere in the choices is the option for "story". I tend to just choose one or type in "Fan of the franchise" and keep moving.

Crap... I do that all the time too!
