PS3 is the future. B_e_l_i_e_v_e

As an aside, I think the PS3 is the best rounded platform of the last generation cycle, so Sony delivered in the end, even if it wasn't as dominant as the PS2.

If you're talking about the shape of the system, I agree with you. It had many more rounded edges than its competition.

They did deliver.  They just paid the price of releasing a system near 3DO/Neo Geo level price levels due to Blu Ray drive and a few other things (Cell).  What I find funny is that the PS3 was the cheapest (at the time) Blu Ray drive available.  It should have perhaps sold better at the time but there are only a decent amount of people that are willing to throw down that kind of money on new tech.  The mass market price is around 200-300.  Now you see the PS3 selling even better once it hit that price point.

I don't even care anymore. I just want my console.

Ongoing bet with think-man: He wins if MH4 releases in any shape or form on PSV in 2013, I win if it doesn't.

I think that all three consoles were excellent in their own way.  I love my PS3 and Wii and I regret never buying a 360:

PS3:  Some excellent exclusives, great system quality (original and slim), blu-ray playback

360:  Best performing multiplats (overall), best online

Wii:  Nintendo exclusives, VC, great party console

If you want the best looking games and probably all the major third party support, wait for a PS4/720.

If you want Nintendo franchises buy a Wii U.

If you want both and can afford both, get a PS4/720 + a Wii U.

Simple. Video games are serious business I guess.

Nintendo wins in this formalu...  25% of people buy just Wiiu, 25% buy just ps4, 25% buy just 720, 25% buy wiiu and 720 or ps4.

I think that once people see how expensive the ps4 and 720 are and the lineup nintendo has next christmas (and all previous like Bayonetta, Zombi U, Pikmin, Yoshi) many will decide to buy a wiiu now since they have the games and will wait for a next gen system when they are cheaper and actually have games that take full advantage of them.

Nintendo will do well during their typical short lifecylce. 720 and PS4 will do well in their 8 to 10 year lifecylce.

I think the PS3 was well worth $400-$500 ($600 is pushing it) considering you got a Blu-Ray player, a large HDD, a good (and free) online network, and probably the best next-gen console. It's also great at playing Netflix, image quality I find is better than the 360 or Wii U even.

Considering that Sony is still giving the platform a ton of support well into its 7th year with The Last Of Us, God Of War Ascension, etc. I think it was well worth it.

I'll gladly pay $400-$500 if PS4 is similar.

What happened to the bird and Zelda tech demos that were shown at last year´s E3?...you guys probably remember them, pretty impressive. If I remember correctly, they were supposed to be real time.

The avalanche of stories about 'slower CPU, slower RAM, on par with 360/PS3, shitty ports, etc..' has pretty much buried any remembrance of those demos...I mean, what happened, did they lie to us when they showed them?...or are we just impatient, waiting for a game that´ll match those visuals?

1) If you want the best looking games and probably all the major third party support, get a PC

2) If you want Nintendo franchises, buy a Wii U

3) If you can afford to get both, you have the best of everything!

Those were real time.

And they were on old devkits. Seeing as Zelda always looked better as the tech demo, I think we are going to see some very impressive stuff. I haven't forgotten about them!

I think visual fidelity past what the PS4/720 are likely to fall into is a moot point to be honest.

Unless you have a 4K monitor, to make a game on the PC platform that goes far beyond the PS4/720 will likely cost anyone a motion picture-sized budget to achieve.

So I don't really even see the point in that. Maybe by 2015/16 when 4K monitors become a little more common.
