Wii U: Nintendo 'Needs More Exclusives' To Beat PS3, Xbox 360 - Pachter

Michael Pachter tells us what Nintendo needs to do for the future of Nintendo's Wii U.

Despite the launch issues surrounding the Wii U, Nintendo has had a fairly successful launch. It's not clear skies for the new console, however, as Pachter believes it still has a lot of work to do to bring in the core console market.

Speaking with NowGamer, Pachter said there was "no telling what Nintendo has planned," and that the Wii U still needs to convince a large group of people.

"I'm still not sold on the console as being significantly different than current generation consoles," said Pachter, "and am interested personally only in the exclusive software."

It's the Nintendo-made games that will ultimately sell the console, claims Pachter: "I think that Nintendo needs more exclusives to differentiate the Wii U, and am pessimistic that they will be able to deliver them next year."

Pachter is also down on Nintendo's capabilities with online functionality, too. "In particular, it is essential that the Wii U has the same online multiplayer functionality as the others, or they will have trouble attracting Call of Duty players, for example."

Whether Nintendo will manage this or not Pachter didn't say, but it's clear Nintendo still has a lot of work to do.

Will you be buying a Wii U this week, or are you letting Nintendo's next-gen console pass you by?

Kinda like stating the obvious? I'm guessing he's talking about 3rd party support or something, because Wii U got... like... Nintendo games?

I'm on Twitter @DanneSandin!

Furthermore, I think VGChartz should add a "Like"-button.

I dunno Patcher, Nintendo NEVER has exclusives..

I think teh Wii U is DOOM3D!

He's right of course, Nintendo does need the exclusives. But Nintendo knows this so they always deliver. The thing he's wrong about is being worried that they may not deliver.

I don't think Wii U is going to sell the most hardware this holidays, but I'm sure it'll ramp up its exclusive stable through 2013.

Wii didn't need CoD. I don't see why Wii U needs to aggressively pursue the CoD gamer to be successful.

I am not sure what point this guy is trying to establish. 9 out of the top 10 exclusive franchises are developed by Nintendo.

I describe myself as a little dose of toxic masculinity.

Really? What are the top 10 exclusive franchises then?

I think Jumpin was exaggerating for emphasis, but here:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_best-selling_video_game_franchises

Exclusive franchises from this list:
- Mario/Super Mario
- Pokemon
- Wii Sports
- Mario Kart
- Legend of Zelda
- Donkey Kong
- Halo

It's honestly very hard to say what an exclusive franchise is because pretty much most franchises find success being multi-plat, or hop platforms after some time (FF, DQ)...

I think Nintendo's "pitch" to core players will be the following 8 projects, probably all well into development by now:

Super Mario Universe - EAD Tokyo Fall 2013 (?)

Zelda U - EAD (Aonuma's group) 2014

Super Smash Brothers U - Nintendo/Nacmo Spring 2014?

Bayonetta 2 - Platinum Games; Late 2013/Early 2014

Retro's Game (New IP?) - Retro Studios; 2013

Monolith RPG (New IP) - Monolith; Summer 2013

Donkey Kong Country U - NST (?); 2014?

Mario Kart U - EAD; Fall 2013

These are going to be the "tentpole" core games for the Wii U through the end of 2014 I think.

So he was talking about handheld&home consoles and going by sales numbers, yet lying. Sounds like a nintendo shill. Reggie, is that you?

He forgot to mention how Nintendo always make exclusive games for Nintendo consoles and nobody else.
