Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Zelda U controls speculation

This has to be one of the best things about the Wii U. Hopefully Zelda has (Don't call it Zelda Nintendo) motion controls and the option of regular controls + gamepad functionality. That leaves a playstyle for everyone to enjoy.

I'm fine with the option as long as (A) motion is still supported, and (B) the swordplay isn't dumbed down to accomodate non-motion controls.

I agree. I know many people can't stand motion controls, but when implemented correctly they're amazing. I don't think I can ever go back to button presses after Skyward Sword. The controls were a revelation.

if your goign to do this, NIntendo may as well release a body suit with sensors on it for the game.

I think it would be too akward to hold both these.

Nono, what I mean is the pad attaches to the nunchuck, or to a peripheral that holds both the nunchuck and the padlet, but feels like the handle of a shield. I'll try to draw it...

I thought about this too. I think it can work, though you'd likely need a strap for the gamepad just in case.

It is pretty much the only way I can see them implementing SS's motion controls (which I thought were great, the swordfighting at least, wouldn't want to go back). That and using the Wiimote/Nunchuck combo with the gamepad as map screen in front of you, but I don't really see the point of that.

Maybe they could use this (in the OP) as a control input, and devise a more traditional control input for those that don't have Motion Plus, or don't want to use motion control. Hear me out;

SS doesn't have a traditional option because there was no way you could do the combat or the puzzles with button controls. the WiiU gamepad has a second analog. What if they could make the right analog also control the sword? Move the stick right > Link swings right. Move it up > Link trusts upwards, and so on.

I think they could make these two inputs work.

So, the point of it would be the motion + technology that's in the padlet and not in the chuck. The second would be the ability to press buttons (and touch screen buttons) on the padlet a bit like pressing the dials on a watch, you press them on the padlet.

The option to use non motion controls is also a great idea, and yeah you and DS have an idea to use the analog stick for it. It could suit everyone. Options are always good.

Mad Paint skills aside, I don't know if it's intentional or just bad picture quality but a Golden Gamepad would be awesome to play some Zelda with .

@quote to me I didn't quote:

In the second sentence I meant setting up the Gamepad in front of you on the table seperately, and touch stuff on it. That type of control wouldn't be fast gameplay I think? I'm down with the idea in the OP, I think they could make that work. The only downside is not everyone may have a Motion Plus controller, so therefore the other option. And options are always good yes!

They can use the gamepad for shield blocking (with two hands then) after a button push and then have you attack with another button press (leaving block modus).
Perhaps combat will focus on more shield blocking. The gamepad can easily be employed for that.

In the wilderness we go alone with our new knowledge and strength.

Thanks :) The pic is from a dimly lit room, that's the illusion you got.

@fast. It wouldn't be much slower than selecting it from holding the - button (or whichever it was hehe). Also, immersion > speed? idk

Anyway, it would be an option, since all the motion+ buttons are  still there.

@stefane. I wouldn't be surprised if that were exactly one of the ways to play.

Did a slight edit above, but too late it seems, your answer still applies though .

And yeah, I guess so, the -button (or wasn't it the '1'? don't know anymore either) has never really been in a good spot for these things.

i've had to play move games with the dualshock in one hand instead of the nav controller. trust me when i say it sucks. having the gamepad in one hand as the shield would suck even worse.
