Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Forza Horizon Tanking Just a Month After Release

The only reason why Forza series is selling is because its heavily bundled. Forza 3 and Forza 4 are only selling because of its extensive bundling. Same thing goes with Little Big Planet on the PS3. Speaking of racing game sales GT5 is heavily undertracked. As of Sept 2012 it shipped 9 million copies and VGC has it at 8.2 million in November 2012...WTF! VGC should really fix that up. Anyways when it comes to tracking older video games sales VGC is quite a bit lousy.

Lol. It's their Black Friday sale for crying out loud. They even had Assassins Creed 3 for $24.99 - I guess that game is tanking as well.

My guess is they wanted to take a steep cut and have people download the DLC season pass. It's pretty money for MS.

Also, lots of $10 deals today at the MS store check Cheapassgamer. Hell Skyrim was $10 and TTT2 along with Dragons Dogma and so many other games.

It's just that simple.

Wow this thread has made me realize that the Microsoft store has the BEST deals on 360 and PC games.

EDIT: And EVERY game I want is sold out :/

Racing games in general aren't doing well. If you're game doesn't have the main character equipping a gun, then don't expect to sell a lot of copies, albeit there are a few exceptions. Even Gran Turismo 5 didn't do so well when compared to the other GT games. The difference is that 9 million in sales is still pretty damn beast when matched up against other racing franchises/games. Not to mention that the popularity of Forza is decreasing. Forza 3 sold 5.1m whereas Forza 4 sold 2.65m and now Forza Horizon...yeah. I blame Call of Duty for the increase in popularity of shooters! =P

Yea you have to give Forza 4 some time to sell but then again it's usually the Sony games that have the crazy legs so idk

But Im pretty sure that MS will bundle Forza 4 to 4-5 million though.. And Forza Horizon to like 3 million

But whatever though..

Microsoft has released way too many Forza games this gen and this is going to tire the series out which is why I assumed that the series peaked on Forza 3 and will continue to go down if Microsoft forces Turn 10 to turn (lol) out new Forza games. This, in my opinion, will hurt them a lot in the future. Polyphony attempts to spend as much time possible on a game before releasing it, which is why it is still relevant and looked at as the king of racing sims. In trying to attain the sales and popularity of Gran Turismo, rather than focusing on quality they focus more on quantity. Yes I realize that the Metacritic for Forza 4/Horizon is higher than GT5 game but that is the price GT has to receive for it's large popularity. Much like Call of Duty, Reviewers try to pick out every little wrong detail that the game has in order to get their website hits or try to be a "rebel" amongst the other reviewers praising the game. Yes the game isn't perfect, but with all the patches/DLC that Polyphone  has released for GT5 since launch it has exceeded the quality of Forza. Again as I said, this is all my opinion.

reviewers reviewed forza better as gt because they think it's better and not because gt is a bigger franchise and whatever you said^^ and yes gt 5 is much better now but reviewers review the game at release and not how people can play it a year or so later. if they would have released gt 5 like it is now it would have gotton a higher score but they didn't, they released a game worse than forza 4 and with that forza 4 got a higher score at release.

and turn 10 has a much bigger team so they didn't work less hours on a forza 4 as polyphony did with gt 5. has nothing to do with quantity instead of quality, just that a bigger team can do more in a shorter timeframe but the worked hours are the same in the end. if you count gt for psp and ps3 and probably one for vita anytime soon i don't think gt games get more hours worked on.

It's not about how you start, it's about how you finish. GT5 didn't start in first place but they finished in first.

that's your opinion, i still like forza more but what exactly has this to do with what you said, that reviews are lower because they look more at the bad stuff in gt because it's such a big franchise and that they work more on the game before they release it? it seems as if they work more on it after release because otherwise they wouldn't have had to fix the game so much. and like i said, if you have 2 or 3 times as much employees working on a game you need much less time. much less time doesn't mean then that they put less work in forza.

You're forgetting the fact that GT5 has a LOT more content than Forza 4/Horizon put together. 1,000 cars 71 different tracks and it has features that Forza games lack such as night time driving. This is another reason as to why it took longer to develop GT5 but people seem to forget the scale (in terms of content) that GT games have when compared to other games. Much more to do plus this isn't including the DLC.

Why would you just realize this? They're published by Microsoft so of course they can offer it for a lower price -.-

Really? Skyrim, Max Payne 3, Batman Arkham City, and many other popular 360 and PC multiplat games (all $9.99) are published by Microsoft?

Guess you learn something new everyday.

It is very good, but very likely, there isn't a huge market for open road racing titles.  Heck, even racing itself isn't huge, unless it is karting (Super Mario Kart) or something like Forza or GT, that have their own bases.

LBP Karting came ou two weeks ago and we had it for 30 dollars. Half off in 2 weeks

PS All Stars Battle Royal came out last week and we had it tor 20 dollars off.

Just because something goes on sale on black Friday doesn't mean its tanking

I don't think your examples help your case.
