Forums - Sony Discussion - Sony's Portable Console Dying Ugly in Japan

The MAJOR correction needed was the description of playstation "aging badly." What.sales figures have ypu been watching lol....

Vita is just the nail in dedicated quality handheld's coffin. 3ds isn't quality, its rubbish much like andoid/iphone...it's the truth lol, no offense to the fanboys. Sony has been the only company to provide quality handhelds, and it seems people just want cheap and easy.

It's like this looming deathclock for vita, if they actually turn it around it will be a miracle lol.

"3ds isn't quality, its rubbish much like andoid/iphone...it's the truth lol".. why yes.. yes it is definitely rubbish.. thats why its getting major third party support coz its rubbish.. its the latest craze with third parties.. developing for rubbish handheld.. seems legit.

To be fair, Vita is doing better than the xbox in Japan.. Why would they discontinue the Vita if the Xbox is still there?

Genius... Logically sound and funny too.

To be fair, shaved marmots peppered with panko would do better than the Xbox in Japan.

Theres no reason for the Vita to sell in japan right now, all the fall games which were supposed to help it are based on western mass market franchises which are'nt even acknowledged in Japan.

Spring 2013 will be a different story entirely with: Soul Sacrifice, Phantasy Star Online 2, God Eater 2, Ninja Gaiden 2 plus, Gundam Breaker, Tales of Hearts R, Vahalla Knights 3 and Muramasa: The Demon Blade all being released within 6-8 weeks of each other. Obviously many of these games aren't news worthy by themselves, but with SS, SO2 and Gundam Breaker being tentpole titles, the others will aid in keeping interest up. I can't see the system not passing 80k on the release of soul sacrifice, the game looks like what the japanese gamers have been waiting for from the Vita. All Sony need to do now is get Kingdom Hearts HD on the Vita and its a done deal. the system would probably 800k-1m between December and april in japan.

It actually sold pretty good this week. Almost 100,000 (worldwide) and Persona 4 will lift it up even more!

Nintendo are reaping the rewards of the Vitas failure in Japan.

Indeed they are, but sadly western devs are not committing ot the 3ds either, or at least that we know of.

And what annoys me with the 3ds is we see some cool videos of games in Japanese, then the sad part is they don't get transaled to the west. So we miss out on a lot of the interesting games.

Before people shoot me saying 3ds has a goo dnumber of games, sure it does, but I have money to burn so I want more haha.

I love my PS3 but you have to admit the Vita is pretty much dead.  I'm not sure they can make it turn around.  Sony should just cut their losses and discontinue it.

Why shoud they cut their losses? All they need to do is drop the price, and maybe release a heavy-hitter. It's still to early to kill the Vita off.

Vita is selling better than PSP, why would they discontinue Vita before the PSP? Do you not think before you write?

Anyone else notice how this article was ironically written today on Black Friday? Makes you wonder what kind of agenda they have against Sony.

"Makes you wonder what kind of agenda they have against Sony.".. BS.. now they have an agenda agaisnt sony? dafaq.. wasnt it just the start of the year.. vita was the media's darling amazing new handheld.. you sony fans.. now playing the victim card.. whats being reported is the truth accept it.

Why write this article on Black Friday? Wasn't even reporting news, the stuff about 3DS outselling Vita 46:1 is OLD news. Like 2 weeks.
Did you even read this article? Pure Sony bashing and false facts.

FACT: The PS3 is not "aging badly".

Looks like whoever wrote this article hates everything Sony. He/she can't even understand that a western game won't "save" Vita in Japan.

I know Sony is not doing well right now, but WHY THE HELL people need to make 345999 articles about it?

We already know, so they need to stop writing the "Sony is dying" articles, and let them do their job. Journalists need to stop spreading doom and fear.

Journalists report news.

Reports dont make things worse, if Sony turn it round then there will be plenty of "Sony is back" articles.  I doubt you will complain if we are awash with those.

What they have written is already known so there is no need to continue saying it.  Bad news are bad news; the more you spread them the more damage they will do. So I dont think they need to continue writing countless of articles, about the bad situation of Sony because they affect negatively the company.  I know that the bad measures taken by Sony itself are already hurting them, and are the one responsable of how they are now, but there is no need to pointing at them, every day, and say thinks like "they are dying", "you are dying", "treat it like cancer"; because that obviously hurts them too.

When Sony turns the tides, it would be nice that the journalists take the same ammount of time and dedication to spread the good news over and over again. :)

Wouldn't you know it, this is how FUD usually works. The difference here is that FACTS are being reported, and people can't abide the facts or the messenger, so the latter becomes the target of frustration.

No, facts are not being reported. Article is full of bullshit.

The real facts were already reported, weeks ago. This article is pure trolling. What does "dying ugly" even mean?

dying ugly probably means dying with a lack of grace.  I guess you're really a kid to not know that some people die gracefully than others. While others die width so much pain and misery that makes a person want to alleviate their pain.  Which is probably what the author is stating, which is to end Vita's atrocious sale by dropping the portable...which maybe a good thing if you're a Sony stock holder at the moment.

Everyone seems to be coming around to the idea that it should be cheaper. I think myself and Rol said before the launch that it was DOA at that price. It simply could not be a hit at such a high price.

They might still save it if they take a cold shower on the price, the question is do they think its worth it and can they afford to? I say can they afford not to?

The vita was probably more than likely a hit in the U.S this black friday.. as it's sold out almost everywhere(the COD/AC bundles)..... but, I do agree.. they need to cut the vita's price to $199 or less.. and I do believe they can afford it.. my opinion on the matter is that sony is making a tremendous profit per vita sold.. and are trying to keep the system highly priced in other to bring in profit into the company.. vita.. vita accessories.. ps3 software.. and ps3 accessories along with maybe their smartphone line up is what is probably keeping the ENTIRE company afloat.. as it's likely all of those things are bringing in a lot of profit in comparison to anything else that they sell..
