Forums - Nintendo Discussion - The State of the Wii U, Just Three Days In - Most controversial thing Nintendo has ever done?

Anybody know if Black Ops 2 on the 360 has 3D mode? CoD BO had it. I don't see an option for that in Black Ops 2 for the Wii U.

Have only played Nintendo Land and NSMB U so far. Spent most of the day playing with its features. I just want to say that bot games required an update. Both times, I opted to skip it and both times, the update downloaded in the background while I played the games.

After they downloaded, how did it install? Were you prompted or notified in any way?

Did the same thing with Black Ops 2.  Second time I played it, I had to do the install manually.  Sucks.

Well, I guess its kinda setup so you wont' forget.

I'm not sure which I like better. The PS3 would force the install on me as I started the game. On one hand, it makes sense as the patch likely fixes important stuff. On the other hand, I wanted to play right then. The WiiU allows you to download while you go ahead and play. But once you're done, you'd have to manually initiate the install or be forced to see it install when you played at some other time. This way at least doesn't make you watch the download, but you'd think it would prompt you when you went to shut down the game or maybe mid-game with a notification that it was ready.

I really think Nintendo needs people who speak up without fear of managment reprisal. The Japanese mantra being thrown over the company has the negative impact of not questioning management decisions when they are becoming more and more away from modern UI trends and OS improvements. This is not just in reference to this topic, but to many other things I've noticed as I've played with the system.

Hey chunk, nothing to do with the thread, but I was talking to kitler about the old times here and do you remember?

I´m hoping we get some of that excitement back as the other systems are unveiled and launched.

And Ryan, as for the title of your thread...no, the Wii was way more controversial...from the name 'Wii' to a controller that was shaped like a TV remote...now that was controversial.

Yep, Lucas was the man. Too bad he's MIA, would be nice to see him with the WiiU rising. I'll do prediction stuff after xmas is over and we can accurately judge WiiUs legs.

I've discovered a few issues not mentioned. Setting your audio settings to surround has the potential to screw up audio in some games. Specifically Darksiders II. If your WiiU is set to surround, Darksiders 2 ignores the center channel for sound effects and voice audio. This wouldn't be troublesome, except that the center channel is the only channel Voice audio comes from. Changing the Wii to stereo fixes the problem.

Similarly, surround sound isn't true dolby digitial surround sound. Its Pro Logic II surround, which is Surround sound buried in a stereo stream. Even less excuse for the surround sound issues mentioned above.

This bit at the end really caught my eye:

"The Wii U is no more shaky at launch than the PS3 or the 360. All these machines sputter at take-off before they soar. There's potential here."

This is very true. The reason there is so much doom and gloom regarding the WiiU's future right now is simply because Nintendo is doing something unique and unproven with a console before. I'm no Nostradamus, but I believe that WiiU is going to prove to be big. Very big.

How big do you think it might be? do venture giving a number? ;) myself, I've said at worst 50m, and at best 120m...

Furthermore, I think VGChartz should add a "Like"-button.

Within those parameters is almost certain IMO, but of course, that's a pretty broad range there.

To narrow it down a bit more I'd guess somewhere between 70m and 110m.  Personally I'm hoping closer to the higher end because I already love it.

Haha yeah, that's a rather broad range for sure! I think it'll depend on Sony and Microsoft though. If Wii U will recieve good ports I'm sure it can reach 120m; if there's only a minor difference in graphics Wii U will be the way to go! But, as I said; we'll have to wait and see what S&M brings =)
