Forums - General Discussion - What's the earliest memory of your life that you remember?

There are several things. The earliest memory, though, is that I was lying in bed looking at that dog + baby poster I had on my wall (and still own). And I remember hearing a "noise" in my ear that night which I now know was my blood.
I don't know how old I was but I know I just learned to walk some. I never asked my parents when I did learn it, maybe I should.

3 more memories are somewhere between age of 1 and 2. I remember a lot of details and it was in the old house we lived in. We moved when I was 3.

It seems like most people here can recall at least one memory from when they were toddlers. I'm kind of surprised because every time I ask someone that I know this, they can only bring back memories from when they were 8-10 mostly.

Playing Super Mario Bros. What else?

Well at least it is an early one...could be a holiday...or playing Donkey Kong.

Before the PS3 everyone was nice to me :(

Same here, apart from an early traumatic memory, I can't find any memory before the age of 4 that is not part of a story that my parents told me later over a photo album or home video. (8mm footage, ugh I'm getting old)

It's not that difficult to figure out if something is a primary memory or secondary. Perspective in imagery in recollections gives it away. The world transforms rather drastically as your eye level moves up with age. Revisiting those places you used to live in as a child is always pretty jarring. The once immense schoolyard, now a tiny space jammed in between buildings. The heavy door handle you had to reach for above your head. Dogs that you could not look over. A world full of pant legs to navigate through. That huge climb up the slide.

All my 'memories' pre 4'ish are more in a adult perspective. I'm probably going to contaminate my children's early memories even more by mosty filming them at their eye level :/

I was two years old. We went to a new building I never was before, with other kids. My parents told me that it was going to be fun... yeah. The enemy was waiting us inside. They had balloons... it was a massacre. We were so young...

Actually that's the second thing I remember. The first one is playing on the floor with a yellow car near the TV, in an unknown (friends? family?) house. I have no idea about how old I was.

The earliest things i can remember are from the age of 2-3, just small things like playing with toys and family members and memories of my brother as a baby.

But if i'm shown a picture from anytime from around the age of 3-5 i can remember the exact day and the event which was taking place and many other things i did that day.

Does anyone remember how different things looked when they were little?

I remember looking at the side of my brother's crib. I was around 3 give or take 6 months or so. I was trying to understand the globs of colours and such. I saw it years later and realized it was a cute picture of dumbo and friends. But as a wee little one, I couldn't tell where one figure ended and another began. It was just all a big design.

Also, I remember when I finally learned some letters and began to read. Before that I just ignored words and sentences cause it just looked like gobbed scribbles.
I also remember colouring on my dad's desk. I colored in Micky Mouse and it sparkled, changed color, and was the most beautiful thing I had ever seen. It was so beautiful that it was difficult to look at because it was so bright. I actually found it years, and years later and it was just a couple of scribbles, and I didn't even stay in the lines. It looked a mess, but I remember how I saw it when I was little.

Really not sure I see any point of Consol over PC's since Kinect, Wii and other alternative ways to play have been abandoned.

Tell me a funny joke!

I remember going into a basement in somebody's house and playing with a bunch of toys. Pretty sure I was carried down there. No idea how old I was.

Past the age of four, it's all relatively clear, but before that I have just snippets.
For whatever reason, I have lots of memories of swimming. This is probably around age two. In particular, I remember this delicious chocolate milk that I got to drink every time I went swimming. Also, I remember being forced underwater by my parents once in an effort to get me to learn how to swim. Another thing I remember is intentionally letting my trunks slip off because they were uncomfortable (and then having them returned by some woman later).
Other than that, I remember, around three, being forced to sleep in the afternoon. And being told to watch TV while my parents were out. Routine things like this stuck in my head.
A fairly vivid memory is about when my sister broke her arm. At a party or such, we were competing with some other kids to see who could sit on the tallest stack of chairs. I chickened out quickly, but my sister, while trying to climb up, made the entire stack fall over on her and broke her arm in the process.
Other than that, I have an enormously painful memory of putting on some sort of pants with a zipper without wearing underwear. Not all that clear, but hurts just to think about it.
Looks like I remember quite a bit, though I guess I'm younger than most of you.

Am i the only one that has a fucked up memory of a past?

I remember when i was 4, i drove my mum's kingswood down the road, luckily the road workers was there to stop the car.

3 or 4 years old. I had a power ranger action figure, was playing in front of my house, some random brown kid asked to see the action figure... then he run. D:
