Forums - Gaming Discussion - Gaming company loyalty is a dying breed. Lines are now blurred.

I guess I was spoiled, but I grew up having every console. Never all at the start, but I got them along in the generation. I always had preferences (which shifted kinda drastically with the newest generation), but I always indulged in good games.

They have been blurred for me since I had the N64 and PS1 in one gen and had multi-consoles or PC ever since. I still slightly prefer the Ps3 over the 360.

This actually seems like an attempt by the original poster to pretend like he likes more than the 360.

Sorry, buddy, I do not believe you.

Well there are more consoles worth owning than ever before.
There have never been 3 consoles with great library of games before.

I also have the money to buy multiple consoles, but I don't have the time. I chose to stick to one console only this gen.

My respect for you just increased 10 fold. Its very hard to find a PS3 only owner, even for me.

Wtf?

You respect people more just for owning one single video game console and ignoring the competition? Do you have less respect for people who are not loyal to their favorite brand?

That makes no sense. If you own all or at least more than one console, your opinion is more informed. An informed opinion deserves more respect than an opinion coming from a guy who refuses to take a close look at the competition.

Context. Strictly in terms of forum debate, I respect someone who only owns the console of their choice.

And I get by on PS3 knowledge with metacritic, youtube, and forums. I am as educated about PS3 as a non-owner can get.

While you're right that this thread shouldn't apply to someone like me that buys everything, the fact that individuals have a sense of loyalty towards a faceless corporation that doesn't care about you in any way, still confuses me. One shouldn't limit themselves to one platform due to blind loyalty. You should be a videogame loyalist and support good videogames.

I own only a PS3, because of time. Although I sometimes play other consoles at friends houses or something.

But I think that you can have multiple consoles and enjoy one more and defend that one. If having more than one consoles will make you enjoy gaming more... Go for it!

Owning just one console because of loyalty is pathetic. Guys that do that are blind and dumb.

If you only have time/money/interest for one console, that's ok.
If having more consoles will make you enjoy gaming more but you don't do it because of loyalty, it?s simply wrong and stupid.

And there is not such thing as console neutrality... the console war is not a REAL war...

I own only one because I only have the time and interest for one. Loyalty is a by-product. Hardly the primary reason.

But I personally think of the console war as a "cold war". There are people on each respective camp and there is clear hatred towards eachother in those groups (for reasons even I can't figure out). Theres words being thrown around on the internet but no real violence. So its a cold war.

This thread is weird. I've never experienced brand loyalty divides when I was growing up. There wasn't any SNES vs Genesis war or N64 vs PS war. There was just gaming, on everything, whether you owned one console or not. It wasn't until this gen started that things got crazy, when everyone was influenced by brand loyalty. It's spiraled out of control. Thanks to the internet communication has multiplied exponentially. No longer can a group of people be isolated out of the conflict. Now everyone is involved. Sales2099, the way you remember things is entirely different than the way I do. Maybe you experienced console wars back then, but not everyone did. Today, the wars are so into the public sphere that it is inescapable. You're witnessing of neutrals isn't due to a lack of loyalty, it is due to an increased scope. The console wars are worse than ever, they are big, but along with that comes knowledge to those who don't care, who participate in all consoles.

Before the PS3 everyone was nice to me :(

See last gen I had a Ps2, Xbox & GameCube so even with my very biased username I actually am a secret fan of all lol this gen I have had a PS3 all the way through and brought a 360 when it launched (but sold it for a new surfboard) and owned a Wii for 2 days. However when the gen is done I shall pick up a new 360 for gears of war and Maybe Halo ;)

Limitation is never good. Why would being a die hard fan boy be good? It only means you'll see things one certain way. There is nothing good in that. Do you also only watch one channel on TV?

This gen I've only had Wii and PC, but I've played Fable and some Uncharted. Why? Because they're fun, entertaining and good games. You should play games for the sake of the games, not the sake of consoles.

I'm on Twitter @DanneSandin!

Furthermore, I think VGChartz should add a "Like"-button.

The tv comment is absurd but somethings in life people become loyal to them. Not just in gaming, but in many other mediums. Its limiting, but its also human nature to latch onto something and call it your own.
