I would consider this move as a stupid one by nintendo.

you do know that the Wii also didn't have an ethernet port?

Didn't matter for the Wii since its online services were sub-par.

Both Microsoft and Sony offer Ethernet connections to their consoles because wired > wireless EVERY SINGLE TIME.

Wii and Wii U offer ethernet connections, look a few posts above you. You can even use your Wii adapter if you have already bought it.

B-b-but THE EXTRA EXPENSE

These things should come as standard, along with every game the owner should wish to play pre-installed on a 5TB hard drive

Vita an external, hard to find add-on which takes up one of the USB ports.
No this isn't a deal breaker for those interested in a Wii U, but the negatives are starting to stack up.

360 didn't have wifi in the beginning and you had to buy an add-on to play with wifi. I remember a lot of people getting pissed by it, myself included, but hey I just bought the add-on and I start playing some multiplayer....until I got the RRoD :(

These days there is no reason not to include both. (exept for saving a couple pennies per console)

Looks like I'm not alone afterall.

Wasn't Nintendo supposed to convince that they could reach and touch "the core gamers" again? They're not starting out on the best foot, but hey, I'll pass final judgment after I get my WiiU, not before.

That awesomely filled external usb HDD is only available in the Super Deluxe Bros. limited series edition.

this is dumb how much and Ethernet port cost 26cents?? it's always a good option when your wifi start acting up or if you are downloading a large volume of data and you don' want t risk a disconnect

Bet reminder: I bet with Tboned51 that Splatoon won't reach the 1 million shipped mark by the end of 2015. I win if he loses and I lose if I lost.

this is getting kinda ridiculous...you can buy a 10$ dongle if it matters so much to you @.@

I curse Nintendo's incompetence with the exclusion of phone jack. How will I ever connect my Netzero dial up service then? or Mom & Pop's AOL dialup service? Less Wii Fit online then.

It has wireless N so I don't care. If the wireless is as unreliable as the PS3's with that whole DSN problem etc. then I'd be concerned. But the Wii never had any wifi issues so hopefully it'll be all good.

What kind of latency and dl speed does that 10$ dongle give?
