Forums - Sony Discussion - PS4 Development "stretching Sony studios thin"

I dearly hope we see PS4 and X3ox in 2013, but I'm pretty sure it's not happening; they wouldn't announce it for the first time then release it within a year.

I'm not buying any of this... Sony's not that stupid that they'd make yet another high end super console AND launch last (2014) AND have poor support for it - no way they that stupid.

They can make a super console, but it doesn't need to be $600. The bluray player alone cost $200-$300 at the ps3's launch. This willl not happen again as the Blu Ray Drives are now significantly cheaper and with new discs allowing 128GB of storage there is more then enough for Next Gen development.

The Processor was also stupidly expensive, reportedly twice as expensive as the 360's. Are the graphic we on the ps3 twice that of the 360? No. Sony won't go the propriety root again (to the extent they did) in regards to the processor for the PS4.

Also both the wii U and  720 will come with expensive accessories, being the control and kinect 2 (I'm assuming Kinect 2 will be bundled). Sony don't have to deal with that cost and dedicate it the overall power of the system, theoretically launching a system the same price as the 720 but more powerfull.

In terms of launching late, I doubt it will matter much and maybe the added year is needed to give them the power gains/cost efficiency that they need. People need to remember that the Xbox360 acheived very little in its launch year and had very few titles on it, its only towards the end of 2006 that they scored their 1st hit with Gears and other 3rd party's finally started to release Next Gen games. I hounestly think they could have launched in late 2006 with gears as a launch title and they would have done just as well if not better, as they would have probably have avoided all of the RROD drama and negative press.

Microsoft will, they launched the 360 6months after its reveal.

I still say 2014

Sigh..
Would you people ACTUALLY READ the interview?
There is no mention of a PS4 at all. It is all about this coming XMas season in the UK and how the WiiU might not really influence the sales of the PS3 (which obviously tries to pick the Wii crowd this time with Book of Spells etc).

well Sony knows what they are doing lol

good job Sony bring me dat powa!

    R.I.P Mr Iwata :'(

Am I the only one that actually wants the PS4 to be a high powered super machine?

Anyway the article is about first party studies. Sony has 12, let's take a look.

Evolution Studios-free for any system, maybe another motorstorm

Guerrilla Games-making Killzone Vita, might have a second team working on PS4

Media Molecule-Tearaway Vita

Naughty Dog-The Last of Us PS3 and a second team probably for PS4

Polyphony-no clue what they do

Bend-probably another Vita game, sequel to Golden Abyss?

Cambridge-helping with Killzone Vita?

Japan Studio-The Last Guardian, Gravity Rush 2, Puppeteer, Rain, Soul Sacrifice

London Studio-PS Home

San Diego-Warrior's Lair

Santa Monica-GOW 4

Suckerpunch-free for any system

That is a lot of support for Vita and PS3 plus 5 studios free for the next gen. Pretty good if you ask me.

If this is true (which I hope it isn't) then Sony's just dig his own grave. Why having 4k support? it's completely unnecessary at this point (and will still be for a long time). Besides, being the last company to launch a system, with a beast of a system and what will most likely be a weak third party support (at least at the beginning) will probably be Sony's last console. Again I hope this isn't true.

Having 4K support doesn't neccessarily attach any additional cost to the system (as far as I know) , its simply a reflection of power of the system is. Also what content would be able to support the resolution is also up for question. The original xbox supported 720p but how many games actual ran at that resolution? not a lot

Arriving last will have little effect on 3rd party support, what  next gen games do we know off right at the moment?  Its usually a good year before new generation get strong 3rd party support (Orginal content developed for next gen systems only) Ps4 will likely arrive at the same time most developers start to release next games.

Sony have gone on record and said that they don't wanna be last one out this time around, or at least not far behind. So that would mean March 2014 at the very latest. But if they did launch a whole year after x3ox they'd loose a lot of sales; what you have to remember is that xbox360 were the first - and only - next gen for a whole year. This time a around we'll have TWO next gen systems out for up to TWO years. No way PS4 will be able to bounce back from  that.

Sony can't afford to bleed money like MS can, and people ain't gonna buy a $499 next year, and probably not the year after that. Let's say that the average costumer might spend $399 on a new console - and that's pushing it, considering there's been a lot of complains about Wii U's pricing ($299 and $349). Which means it won't pack enough power to be a major leap over WiiU or x3ox. MS could easily sell x3ox+Kinect2 for $399 and lose $100, thus being on par with PS4. Why wait a whole year (or two) for a console that won't offer much more than what's already on the shelves today - and for a more expansive price none the less??

3rd parties are definetly going to release next gen games for WiiBox during the year before ps4 is released. Both platforms will have gained a good footing since x3ox will get ports from the WiiU and vice versa while ps4 is waiting to get released
