They need to redeem the Metroid franchise first and foremost after the terrible Other M and also then take the story somewhere different from the Prime series once they have done this then they can do whatever they want. Considering the Wii U is trying to real back in the hardcore its important that we have a game from Nintendo's darkest franchise(I dont include Eternal Darkness cause theirs only been one game). I will be extremely shocked if Retro arent working on Metroid or at least some other M rated title. If they are working on Star Fox, F Zero or DK its just a waste of their talents.

Bold: Thought you didn't want an Other M title?

Hahahaha nice I like what you did there. I didnt even pick up on that.

An Ice Climbers reboot would be the greatest thing ever.

Oh man! I hope they're working on MULTIPLE titles! Are they big enough to do that? Dunno, I hope so.

Rare owns the Diddy Kong Racing IP, so that won't happen - but I'd love an new entry in that series!

I'm on Twitter @DanneSandin!

Furthermore, I think VGChartz should add a "Like"-button.

I'd prefer a new IP.

There's plenty of time to make new installments of old franchises, but new IPs are something that shines more in the first years of a console.

Please excuse my bad English.

Currently gaming on a PC with an i5-4670k@stock (for now), 16Gb RAM 1600 MHz and a GTX 1070

Steam / Live / NNID : jonxiquet    Add me if you want, but I'm a single player gamer.

Actually, they don't. Nintendo owns it but has been actively ignoring it. Even the DS version from 2006 was published by Nintendo (and contained nothing but Nintendo properties).

I guess they think Mario Kart is sufficient, but I beg to differ!

Dafuq Nintendo!?!?! Give us Diddy's racing!!! I've always enjoyed that more than Mario Kart actually... Release a Diddy racing 2-3 years after Mario Kart, that way you'll have TWO awesome kart games!!

OP: I think we can rule out a Zelda game: "Miyamoto has said he would like to work with Retro in a Legend of Zelda game, however he says that the current game Retro is working on is not Zelda."

So, it's either F-zero, StarFox or a new IP. I personally would like to see either StarFox or a new IP... Or why not Eternal Darkness? But perhaps Nintendo oesn't own that IP?

From someone who hasn't played Diddy's Kong Racing, is it really that different from Mario Kart?

It's just that if they are about the same, I don't see why there should be 2 cart games on the same console.

I've always thought Diddy Kong Racing was significantly better than Mario Kart 64.

Really it's the single player adventure mode that sets them apart. In DKR, there's a story, some light exploration, and boss battles (or races, at least).

It's like Veknoid said; it's the story mode that sets them apart, with boss "fights" and all. And you got air planes ;)

Not only do you drive go-karts, you also get to drive hovercrafts and planes! (Leaving room for excellent level design where planes can race against hovercrafts, and so on.) It also takes more skill than Mario Kart since poor drivers don't get item advantages, but rather the same items as the leading players.

The music also played a huge role, in my opinion. The composer still works at Rare, but given how Retro made a great soundtrack for Donkey Kong Country Returns I don't see why they wouldn't be able to do it again.

Not to mention their experience gained through working on Mario Kart 7!
