Forums - Nintendo Discussion - The Size of Wii Games

A while back, the actual size of some Wii games was officially released by Nintendo Gamer. Using this info plus what I've found on a variety of websites, I've made a list of Wii games arranged by their size in GB. I thought that maybe it would provoke some interesting conversation, much like the 3DS version of this thread did.

Note: Not all numbers may be 100% correct. All this info is pretty unofficial, even the official numbers. Furthermore, sizes may vary by territory. You have been warned.

Notes:

1. Wii discs can hold either 4.7 or 8.54 GB of space.

2. All WiiWare Games are under 0.05 GB.

3. Samus is a Real Space Hog. Four of the top games have her as a playable character.

4. Epic Yarn is nearly 10 times the size of NSMBWii(!)

5. Excluding Nintendo developed and published games, which have extremes in both directions, most Wii games are in the 1 to 4 GB range.

i think SSBB is around 7.5gb
and Xenoblade around 7gb
the last story 7 and something but not beyond 7.5gb........

"Some prerendered cutscenes, tons of voice acting ..."

Never would imagine that Other M size was so big, and I thought Skyward Sword was bigger, is the game disc for SS double layer?

The thing is, sometimes games have redundant or garbage info on their discs. Since these measurments come from different sources, some games may be more compressed than others. I myself don't own all these games, so I can't measure them all myself.

Anyway, I don't think it really matters if one of the top games is a fraction of a GB off, so long as the list gets the basics right.

You get this off of iso listings or something, or are those not accurate?

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

Those, news articles, rom websites, etc. Usually I'll look for a game twice before writing it on the list in order to verify accuracy.

Super Mario Galaxy = 3.28

Super Mario Galaxy 2 = 1.30

How the hell is SMG2 almost 1/3 the size of the original?
