So they announced a CPP for the XL.
I am so confused, Nintendo, I'm so confused

why are you confused? i thought it would be pretty clear that they would do this

I don't understand why they didn't just put it in if they were gonna release a CPP. I think it is very likely that they will make a 3DS with a second circle pad included, so they might as well do it now.

sshh!! you'll attract the Ninty fans who will jump down your throat and give you all kind of silly reasons why what they did was a good thing. My fav is the screwing over early adopters, even though it would be an OPTIONAL control method. Between me and you i think they should have added it. But this is Ninty and i knew they wouldnt, we can at least take solace in the fact that they have some sort of solution unlike PSP(but on the flipside if they saw how PSP handled they should have had it day one)

LOL, this!

@d21lewis Actually, the SD card slot is now the right side of the system, so you can't put anything there.

I didn't mean the edges of the system.  I meant that they should have designed it with a little port right there on the face of the console.  We'd remove a little cover with our fingernail and plug in a second stick right beneath the ABXY buttons.

The idea of going around with a 3DS with my Wingman Extreme Digital 3D  joystick plugged in is both awkward and awesome!

I was originally upset about the lack of a second circle pad, but I guess I've now changed my mind. Now that it has been confirmed that there will be a circle pad pro XL, in the end, it doesn't matter. Its nice to have the simplicity for games that don't need it, and bust out the CPPXL when you need it. I think it was mostly about expectations for me. I had the expectation it would have it, hence the initial shock. However, now, I am in the camp that it is not needed as part of the main system. Probably the best argument for me is that it would require ZR and ZL buttons as well, and that would be too thick for the main system. So the add-on option makes the most sense it turns out.

one thing I suggest, get the nyko one (if they make an XL version) as it will come with external battery pack built in. So will tripple your game play.

plus it fits the 3DS like a protective cover.

The one thing I like aobu tthe CPP (which other probably hate), is the fact it is shaped liek a controller so feels good in hand with the extra weight. I just wish they added an extra battery pack in it like nyko.

That is great. The only thing though is when you mention the "camp" you are in. I might have missed it but I don't recall anyone having said anything along the lines of Nintendo needing to put the second anlog in, or that it is doomed without it, or anything to that extent. The way I see it is there is only one extremist "camp" in this topic of discussion, those that are adamantly defending Nintendo while assuming/accusing others as saying that they are speaking doom or something similar onto the 3DS. The latter being the important part.

I have addressed that Nintendo probably should have built one in, not that it needed to. It will do fine without it obviously, but adding it will breath additional life into the system, spurring potential developers to the system with games more suited to two analogs. I figure, the sooner the better, but maybe the 3DS doesn't need that breath quite yet. Providing these type of controls will result in more games for the system, which is a good thing for everyone, and controls are completely optional. Having two analogs isn't forcing anyone to use them, devlopers choose what to use and there would be a huge incentive not eliminate single analog control schemes since the initial user base may not buy a CPP. Dual control schemes is the way to go.

It's probable that the 3DS Xl was in development before considering a second analog and Nintendo isn't one to swallow the costs and redesign a model already in the works, at least that's what I think. I feel it is very likely that Nintendo will release a redesigned model a year or two later that it will include a second analog built in, which is great since it would open up controls for those who don't want/like the CPP alternative. The ZR and ZL buttons could be eliminated in favor of however they are used when someone is not using a CPP, or maybe the figure out a way to include it on the system itself, though I prefer the former since it would be hard not to make the 3DS really thick by keeping them.

Before the PS3 everyone was nice to me :(

The ZL/ZR buttons could be added the way they are on the Wii Classic Contoller.

Thanks for the comments everyone. Yes, I think the ergonomic feel of the CPP is really cool. It fits in the hand really well. I also think to get that kind of shape is another reason why there is no second circle pad. Because it is really difficult to fit in the pocket at the same time while keeping the shape and fit of the CPP add-on. Hence, if you need an add-on, might as well have it include the second circle pad and the ZL and ZR buttons as part of it. That is why the add-on method works best, to still maintain the portability.

I don't agree with the Wii Classic controller method of ZL and ZR and frankly think that controller is sub-optimal in many ways compared to gamecube and N64 controllers. Those buttons aren't ideal, too small and hard to reach.

I can't wait to replay SM3DL and MK7 with the bigger screen.

Another question, are you guys going to buy it outright, or sell your 3DS to gamestop and get a discount? I'm not one to keep old systems and usually trade in my old one (ever since the DS Phat).

I'm going to see how it looks and feels in person and then, if I buy it, I'll copy all of my stuff from my current 3DS over to it. Then, I'll probably sell my 3DS or give it away as a gift. I hung on to all of my other DS models but, when it comes to the 3DS, it really only makes sense to have one console. All of your data/downloaded games/pic/etc will be stored in that one place. No point in keeping a second.

I usually keep my systems as backups incase one fails after they stop being produced. At one stage I had like 5 N64s, Gave a couple to my little brother as he has no money. Even baught him a Wii, but he cant afford games (even on sale). So for christmas I always get him about 5-10 games.
