Forums - Website Topics - VGChartz Forum Changes

It would be nice to go back to seeing the avatar of the user who made the thread on the front page of the forum.

I think there should still be subforums, just less. I'd prefer a Sales forum, Gaming forum, Off topic forum, & website forum. The Gaming forum could be split into Sony / Microsoft / Nintendo. I'd prefer that but I don't really mind.

Isn't that pretty much what we have now?

Also, a like button on what - on threads?

On posts

Forum navigation is broken. I like the old way where i can browse forums from the top menu shortcuts. Now, I have to go to forum listings every time I need to switch forum.

Also, a slightly different way of wording the question - what (if anything) in your opinion is broken with the current forums?

That may not be fully up to you, but as many users have been complaining, rules regarding spamming should be far more strict. Moderation as a whole could get a change.

  • Game adding system
  • HTML functionality on walls
  • picture sizes in signature and avatars
  • Ability to keep posting in a locked thread via a rather easy trick...

  • I've addressed the game adding.
  • HTML functionality - such as what?
  • Picture sizes - please explain, you want bigger / smaller?
  • Will make a note of this bug.
  • Cheers.
  • Removal of ability to post videos (Especially autoplay) and pictures on the walls, it's a nuisance (imo).
  • Limit the Avatar sizes to the standard 200px x 200px (Or the 120px x 120px if you will)
  • Limit the pictures in Signatures to be no larger than 755px x 200px, the huge ones are just terribly detrimental when browsing this lovely site on mobile devices (imo).
  • Cheers.

Edit: I support the idea of dumping most (if not all) of the subforums.

Do we even need the forums to be separate? The thought behind this was that we can split conversations and allow people to talk to people about a specific subject in some kind of shielded environment but really the community was never big enough to support this so it just seems to have stifled conversation in reality. My idea would be that all threads would be in one forum and we could use a tag / search to find specific ones of interest?

I still prefer the folder structure, however, You can reduce the number of subfolders . Neogaf has all in one and it is really annoying and not easy to find stuff.

I think the focus should be on making the website more user friendly and simple. One more example, when I am on forums and I click on home button on top of screen, it takes me to my profile page instead of main VGCHARTZ main web page.,

  • Ok, we could have more of a rich-text entry on the walls maybe or something more intelligent that gives the ability to post a video or image. I don't like the idea of an open HTML input as most posts will end up being really messy.
  • Limit the avatar sizes where - on the threads?
  • I thought we had forum rules on signature sizes? You can turn them off in your settings anyway and we should do a lite version of the site for mobile browsing
  • Good stuff, I'm sure you guys will find a great solution.
  • Threads and Walls, I reckon the entire forum will look more clean that way, just my 2 cents though.
  • At the moment the forum rules are: "Not excessively big" to put it blatantely, and it doesn't really seem to be working perfectly...
  • Lite mobile version of the site would be great!

I'll stop now. ; )

Edit:

  • Report function of profiles could be usefull for the spam bots that only spam on the walls and via pm's?

So we won't lose our game collections and ratings? It will simply be automatically moved somewhere else? I just want to be sure.

^ That is a relief.

Why is it we cannot keep our database? It was functional and worked for this site. Game walls are like their own community here. Where the lurkers feel comfortable to post until they are ready for the big show, which are the forums.
Also for database work. Taking away what people have done is like bulldozing over some ones painting that they worked hard on or Destroying other important things. Oliist would be spinning in his grave if he knew all his thousands of pieces of work was just dumped forever. Same with badges. Points might be evil, but badges are different. What is happening with all of that? Database should stay. We ha e had half a dozen threads on where is the database over the past six months. From the stand point of your busiest member, that needs to stay.

Making a a game collection was  one of the reasons I registered instead of becoming a lurker.  I also like the gamerfication that was installed on theforums.  Collecting badges is fun.  Points are also pretty neat, but a big uncessarry.   The forums are a pain to navigate  and I normally stick to hot topics unless I'm posting a new thread.

All I want is for my games collection to be able to be listed in order of rating, so it's easier to adjust ratings. I take my game ratings very seriously.

Also, for the software sales on the front page, instead of just having the platform in black text, could they be coloured like they used to be (red for Playstation, green for Xbox, blue for Nintendo)? Once again, it's only something small but it was a nice touch.
