Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Did Microsoft just make Nintendo's Wii U tablet irrevelant?

I guess is the opposite, having SmartGlass, now a lazy developer will have a bigger userbase and become more interested in develop for this kind situations and will include the same interactivity for smartphone and tablet into the Wii U. And, at least for me, it seems pretty obvious that since Wii U is done for this kind of interactivity, i'll become the better choice for multiscreen asymetric gameplay.

Besides, not all the characteristics of Wii U gamepad are used, they didn't implement gyroscope or accelerometers so no motion controls. Just touchscreen and one pretty uncomfortable if you ask me, i can't play and check my cellphone or tablet at the same time.

NO

simply because majority of the tablets dont feature trigger buttons, a dpad or analog

ike i just said to busted -- i really really large part of the world already has a compatiable device and those that don't won't be buying a console either...

MS did done do it right by supporting all platforms.  i've got two iphones already (3 if you count that of my wife's).   so you just remember -- already bought and purchased is probably a good $300 cheaper than a wii U.  as far as being better in a year -- that's fucking right it will!  and the wii U won't...that's a huge part of what i like about the mobile market ... things are actually getting better instead of stagnated for 6-7 years at a time.

Only problem with cross-platform/system/unit support is that most third-party game developers won't deal with it unless it is there from the beginning and in every single console.

Of course, some might see it as blinking brilliant since they can now get you to DL the 99-cent iOS game, then go buy the $60 retail game to make it work.

Realistically, this technology could be something big next time around. But it probably won't impact the 360 that much.

I like to jump around, and would lead a fairly serene and aimless existence if it weren't for my friends always getting into trouble. I love to help out, even when it puts me at risk. I seem to make friends with people who just can't stay out of trouble.

Absolutely not. One is the default controller, the other in regards to its system is an attachment.

What I said in another thread, The argument that developers wont support Smart Glass because of install base doesnt work, When the Wii U launches the install base of Xbox 360 owners that also have one of the following:

iPhone
iPad
iPod Touch
Android Phone
Android Tablet
Windows Phone
Windows 8 Tablet

Will be far higher than the Will U install base for at least a year. Not to mention that the install base for the combination will also very likely climb much faster than the Wii U install base.

So all Wii U has is the argument that well it has buttons as well so you wont need another controller. Funny thing is that the Wii U seems to have 3 different controllers to start with. The tablet, the new controller just unveiled and the Wii Mote. Seems like Nintendo doesnt think you can get away with just one.

Its libraries that sell systems not a single game.

LOL no what if i don't have a smartphone, or a tablet... you get the point.

in today's market?    ...probably means you're too broke ass poor to own a console.  who's phone isn't on IOs, android, or window mobile now-a-days?!?

I don't have a mobile phone or tablet, don't need one. When I'm out I don't want to be disturbed, and I rather do my gaming on a 92" screen instead of on a tablet.

Anyway wiiU controller comes standard with the console, 1 screen size, 1 spec for everyone with buttons and analog sticks right under your fingers. The wiiU tablet sooner makes apple's iPad airplay irrelevant if we're talking about games.

That said, I'm not convinced by an extra screen to look at while playing. I play most games in a darkened room, an extra screen glaring at me is probably going to be distracting.

The only thing that can make Wii U relevant or irrevelant is the games. Will I be able to play Mario, Metroid, Zelda, Kriby, Donkey Kong and Smash Bothers on any device using Xbox Smart Glass?

Proof that Nintendo really shoul just make games and hardware accessories.

Well its good that Smartglass can be applied to any existing tablet....things people buy seperate from gaming. The WiiU tablet is Nintendo specific and therefore limited in scope

Xbox: Best hardware, Game Pass best value, best BC, more 1st party genres and multiplayer titles.

I haven't watched the video but....

Did the Kinect make Wii irrelevant? No.
