Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Trophy/Achievement system on the Wii U. Will Nintendo do it?

Will Nintendo add trophies/achievements to Wii U?

Yes, Nintendo will give in. 52 33.77%

No, Nintendo will keep th... 17 11.04%

Nintendo will come up wit... 68 44.16%

Don't know... 13 8.44%

Other (please explain). 4 2.60%

Nintendo would probally come up with something on its own. And it probally wouldn't be one point system. They will probally have a "trophey case" like channel where a player could show case achievements that are game specific. (i.e. each game/developer would have it own achievement system and you would get some nick nack (idols/trouphies from Kid Icarus or Smash Brothers) though you could flaunt.)

I'm sure they will. The already added "Accomplishments" to Find Mii on the 3DS and games like Kid Icarus and Xenoblade have them, too. The floodgates are open. All that's left is for the system to encompass all games and not just a couple here and there.

With that said, both Sony's method and Microsoft's method are somewhat flawed simply because all games aren't created equal. A platinum in one game isn't as tough to get as a platinum in another game (PSN). Some games give you a ton of points for finishing a tutorial while others give you a single point for finishing something darn near impossible (XBL). Nintendo will probably just be some sort of merit badge looking thing that can't easily be compared to other gamers.

I hope they let Sakurai do it....i will waste my entire life trying to complete them
I still haven't gotten all the trophys in melee

I really don't think that's a flaw, more like a strength. Having standardized rewards for 'you played 20 hours' or 'you shot 100 dudes' would be boring as all hell - developers should be allowed to play around with their trophies a bit. Variety is the spice of life, etc.

Before Wii U was shown (but already known) last year I was thinking they'd come up with a similar system calling them "milestones".
They said they don't want these in their games because it's up to the player to explore the full game and make up own challenges (I actually did that with every game I loved before this generation - collecting 100%, doing the full handicap/hardest difficulty win, funny things like exploring the map, getting to the highest spot etc.). I respect that. But they said they want to make their system open for developers, not like Microsoft controlling every step. I guess 3rd party games will have achievement-like awards that might be tied to your Wii U profile. But that's all. Maybe it's even just a publisher thing (Ubisoft already has their own weird rewards thing in games; don't know about others).

There already are Wii games with built in Achievement systems. And Nintedno could easily do something similar on the Wii U where you get Nintendo Play Coins, but they'll probably limit that to their first party games.

It would help in game sales. I would probably go back and repurchase many first party games just to have their achievements tied to my account for others to see attached to my profile.

They should have something. As much as it pains me to admit it it, I do like getting trophies.

How about unlockable content (like dlc I suppose) through achievements within the game? Like how it used to be lol. That's way better than something like internet points.

I will worship the first company that strives to do this.

3.24M who purchased Skyward Sword would argue that finally experiencing near 1:1 motion controls after 5 years of Wii on the market is quite the achievement in of itself

sensei, (whoa, it feels really weird to refer to someone as sensei. Anyway) I don't disagree with anything you said. however, i still find it to be a very strange phenomenon.
