Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Microsoft told Pachter their E3 focus is on services over games

Ms is really something they failed the last 2 E3's and now it looks like there going for 3 in a row now lol. Looks like Sony is going to win again

If what Pachter says is true, MS is positioning itself and the X360 to be an alternative content provider platform rather than a game console.

I like to jump around, and would lead a fairly serene and aimless existence if it weren't for my friends always getting into trouble. I love to help out, even when it puts me at risk. I seem to make friends with people who just can't stay out of trouble.

bye bye microsoft

I want WIndows 8 already....

I hope this is not the case, and that either patcher or MS's wording got taken out of place.....last years E3 was just abysmal...wouldn't want to see a repeat.

I guess it's only Pachter's predictions that people like to shit on. I was expecting all of the "Pachter's a doosh" comments and was shocked not to see them.

Well if this is true, then I'm glad that Halo 4 is all I really need to keep me happy because I'm sure there will be enough of that. MS has done a good job at keeping my expectations low, the past couple of E3s have been dog shit. Shadow Complex 2 though would give me a nice man-sized erection though.

I LOVE paying for Xbox Live! I also love that my love for it pisses off so many people.

Considering M$ previous 2 E3, did anyone expected different??

The show will probably be like this: HALO4, COD, KINECT, KINECT, KINECT, KINECT, New Dashbord, KINECT, New advertisement panels on the dashbord, KINECT, new app, another app, KINECT, KINECT, KINECT.

The problem is that the consumer gives them no reason to release retail exclusives. The 360 usually dominates sales charts in the USA with what tends to be a purely third party retail lineup for the last 4 years. It's the consumer's fault for having such low standards if anything, not Microsoft's.

Pretty much this.

But that being said I'll be pissed if this is true.  Honestly MS right now is a good chance for you to show you've got some great exclusives and partners and you decide to continue simply emphasizing how the 360 is a multimedia box.

I don't think they realize they're screwed next gen if they don't start putting an emphasis on games, thats what got them to where they are in the first place.

Well, my 360 has become my Halo and gears box, but I fully admit I like their services. This is what is making them quickly lose what I liked about them when I first bought it, exclusive games. Gears and Halo do not cut it enough to deserve much praise from me.

Odd where others see doom and gloom. I see only supporting evidence for the stealth launch conjectures, because this is exactly what they should be doing in that scenario. This conference would be both the swan song for the old platform while dovetailing into the new platform at the end. The operating system would thus be the rational focus for their conference, because it would obviously be a unified experience capable of running on either machine.

I can sense that some of you are percolating objections at this point, but please hear me out. A stealth launch is not a data dump up front. Instead it is a whetting process. They will give out only enough to get people interested then they spend the rest of the year giving out bits and pieces to keep people interested, and to get people more excited about the new console.

You see if someone told me Microsoft was going to showcase a lot of games at this conference then I would go with the obvious logic, and say the 360 has one or two good years left to go. One year could be argued just to be a off year where development isn't synched up, but two years now you got serious evidence that the console is in fact in cruise control. While the majority of the effort is being marshaled elsewhere.

It isn't just this mind you that makes me think the new console is coming this year. There are a lot of things that make me think this. A much delayed price cut, silent first party studios, market saturation, and the position held by Nintendo as far as launch windows are concerned. Everything points to a stealth launch of a new console. Hell it would be a fantastic way to get a serious tactical edge against the competition. Sony probably cannot afford to match such a launch, and if they can get a hype train going Nintendo could end up forgotten.

Anyway like I said this would be in keeping with a stealth launch scenario. Besides does anyone expect to not see the new console this year. Be it a short time table or a long time table. Does anyone seriously think that the early launcher is going to leave the field uncontested for a solid year. I understand how some might think Microsoft is run by idiot, but seriously do you think proactive has suddenly become cowardly and lazy or suicidal.

Anyway my two cents.
