I expected way more than that. I bet Sony won't make the profits they were predicting. Actually, I thing they will be losing money next year as well. Especially if the PS4 is a powerful machine

and it's the fans who always want to find good news in bad news

Well, could you please explain me where the good news has been for Sony in the past week?

I am not the only one who expected way more than that. Look at all the reactions from the analysts.

"Actually, I thing they will be losing money next year as well. Especially if the PS4 is a powerful machine"

translation, Screw Sony, me the armchair analyst forum dweller knows more than them, they'll be losing money regardless of what they say

because you know more than Kaz, oh do outline how they'll be losing money and especially if the ps4 is a powerful machine, I mean ignoring the fact that the Vita is a powerful machine and isn't lost money, and their plans to cut cost and streamline their business.

Correct me if I'm wrong put don't they take a small loss on each Vita sold?

It actually doesnt matter... the point is that just because a device makes a small profit at retail doesnt mean it is a profitable device.

If it costs me $1bn to develop a device and I sell each completed device for a $10 profit....  It will take a while for it to have been a worthwhile venture.  This is the PS3 problem... it will possibly never turn a profit even though they make a healthy profit on each one they sell now.

'it will possibly never turn a profit'

Practically a dead cert it won't make a profit, it was highlighted that the PS3 strategic price cut last August affected profits in that division, so at most they've been making small bank on every PS3 sold since it started profiting, but think of the 5B+ it lost in the early days.

Grand Theft Auto IV God of War III Final Fantasy XIII Gran Turismo 5 Tokyo Jungle will save the PS3 Sony.

I know, I'm just asking if each unit actually takes a small loss because that's what I've heard.

I don't think you get the point here.

A powerful machine (just like your loved vita) always comes with a lot of R&D. And if the 2013 release is coming closer, R&D costs will grow. That might kill the profits for the gaming business. And Sony won't be able to get these spendings back in the next financial year, even IF (a big IF) the console is sold with a tiny profit per console. Same goes for advertising.

I never said I know more about Sony than Kaz, it is just that the moves he outlined are not enough IMO. And I am not alone with this feeling. Again, check what analysts said.

Imagine not having GamePass on your console...

I was watching CNBC as the news was coming over and the disappointment in the path Sony was going to take was pretty clear. I personally don't think Sony can do much to stop it's eventual buy out from Samsung, there is just too much keeping it from getting back on track. The CNBC commentators linked Sony to the path of Best Buy and Nokia, all are in agreement that these are companies that will eventually disappear from the business landscape

looks like gaming isn't going anywhere nor is it talked about as if it is a drain, if in fact it's a core pillar, I said hell yeah

bring on E3, bring on PS4

I expect ps4 to not be release to 2014, announced next year

so much for "ITZ LOSING TEH MUNNIES!!"

told you so, now you see why they aren't worried, I excpect big things from Vita and PS3 at E3

also Very interested in seeing what they are going to do with Suite platform with upcoming  mobile devices

the new Sony only Xperia line looks amamzing

I thought everyone knew the gaming division was now profitable? It was in the years following the PS3 launch that the division was 'losing teh munnies' in the billions.

Edit: While very vague I'm willing to have a bit of faith in Kaz to turn it around - he managed it with the gaming division.

nah man, these past few I had to fight with people who refused to believe the Vita was making money, I mean I can understand why but that still doesn't excuse it, hopefully this shuts that lot right up

They may already be making a small profit on each device (dont think anyone really knows)... but given the R&D thus far and other associated costs, even Kaz thinks it will take about 3 years for it to be a profitable venture.

Given its shocking sales start it will possibly be even longer or never actually achieve over-all profitability.

that was my point, where were you in the other threads

and yeah the start isn't the best but being that they're aren't losing money like with the ps3 I believe they are in a better position. PS3 was not just selling badly it was losing a FUCKTON of money at the same time, Vita sales may be poor but given the fact that it isn't burning a hole in their pocket gives them room, not much room, but room non the less, to take actions necessary to to get things to pick up, whether that be small price cut, including a memory card, announce big games, etc, people want to live in a world where not only is the Vita selling bad, it's losing money and that there is nothing Sony can do about it.

Sony's been in this industry for over 15 years, created two market leaders that dominated in a way Nintendo could only dream of, and not a single console sell less that 60 million units, and ALL of which do find significant support, some from the start other later but they get support,  I find it hard to believe that they would release the Vita under any less circumstances, why go through the trouble of making it affordable, (3DS was 250 at the time of the Vita price and funny how everyone forgot that before the price was announced given the significance of the specs the thing wasn't suppose to be less than 400-500 dollars without memory cards), making it easy to develop for, announcing support form all those developers if those guys were doing nothing and Sony really had nothing.

IT'S THE LAUNCH, I don't now how many times I have to keep saying that, and launches are vindictive of shit especially in Sony's case, anything can happen from now until the end of this year, and with E3, Gamescom, and TGS not even here yet, it just makes no sense to count them out now. The best thing about going low is that you know what low is, and no one has hit a low like Sony has this gen. Every single thing they could rectify has been rectified with Vita, the device design philosophy it's self is a strait kick in the nuts to what went in the ps3

Ask yourself how can Sony not have a plan for Vita if now it's revealed gaming is not only important to Sony, it is 1 of the 3 core pillars of the company. I take their silence as the clam before the storm, and the storm is coming and it's gonna be amazing. The Vita has me all giddy like the ps3 did not because of what it's shown but what it's capable of being shown. I fully expect Sony to blow the doors off of conventional handheld gaming providing experiences never seen before, just like they did with the ps3, and before you all start, screw casuals on Vita, Sony has a venue for them and that's another point. People went on and on about how the Vita was suppose to compete with smart phones and tablets and how Sony must be mad for not targeting the Vita towards those markets completely forgetting the fact that Sony makes Smart phones....and tablets. I mean and I know it's just a shot in the dark but, if Sony wanted to compete in the smart phone market they would use...oh I don't know...their own smart phones?? nahh they should use their dedicated handheld clearly that makes more sense *oh wait*

The Vita will be the Niche dedicated handheld for the hardcore looking for groundbreaking games with depth, Xperia/Android line through PlayStation Suite will be the casual venue for all the smart phone/ tablet angry bird fanatics. Vita will never break sales records but like the ps3 it won't matter, because the games will be there, and they're gonna be awesome, just wait.

I urge you haters to resist the need spit venom every chance you get least it come back to bite you in your ass.

Sony had a whole generation of RnD, you think the ps3 was sold at such a massive loss for no reason? think about it :)
