Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Another one!..Wii U games 'look just as good' as PS3, but still 'not as capable'

From my understanding, any dev complaining right now either is using version 1 or 2 of the SDK or is trying to run an unoptimized in house game engine.

There are approximately 5 different SDK's in use by various developers and many middleware engines were quickly and easily optimized for Wii U. In house game engines are at the mercy of those developers. If they don't have it optimized, of course your performance will suffer greatly. Or if you are using alpha SDK's, your performance will be lower than what other devs are seeing.

Or if you are doing both, alpha dev kit and unoptimized in house game engine, then you are a moron for complaining.

I've been following the NeoGAF Wii U thread and that's the consensus that the more reputable and "in the know" have posted.

But what sucks is that we're going to get these rumors and reports all the way up to E3... and I'm guessing from here on out it's gonna snowball. The only peep I think we'll get about Wii U before E3 is Nintendo's Fiscal Year Earnings Release on April 26. I mean, on the last report we got information on the Nintendo Network and the U-Pad's ability for NFC... so hopefully Iwata will throw the investors a bone to keep them (and us) happy.

This is getting rather silly. We've seen the Zelda tech demo, and frankly it looks head and shoulders above anything on the PS3 and 360 as it should considering the better tech, granted it is a tech demo, but an interactive one nonetheless. It's starting to sound like people are just trying to get hits.

LMAO, not even fucking close

I don't know what you mean by not even close, as it may not be head and shoulders above the Best 3rd gen PS3 and 360 games, but it sure does look better, take this from a guy that owns both a 360 and a PS3, add the Garden Demo and the is nothing like that on the 360 or the PS3 and thats just facts, also the fact that it was running on one of the very first Dev Kits, and was got up and running in a matter of weeks speaks for it's self.

I just love how its always Fanboys that trys to downplay the Wii U. I just wish i had a way of seeing their faces come E3.

nah its pretty much just your opinion, i don't agree with player when he says its not close but as someone who has played games like uncharted, metal gear solid 4, gran turismo, GoW etc i can honestly say that the wii u tech demoes were not better looking than games i've seen on current HD consoles

"I just love how its always Fanboys"

and btw having a difference in opinion is no reason to call anyone a fanboy

edit: btw "I just wish i had a way of seeing their faces come E3"

that would be irrelevant as he wasn't reffering to what is going to happen at the next E3 but stating that he was unimpressed by what he saw at the last one

I wasn't unimpressed by Zelda E3, its obviously a big jump from the Wii, but i just dont think it looks better ''than anything on the Ps3 and 360''

Ugh....If I hear one more thing about the WiiU's graphic prowess (or lack thereof)... Honestly, it really shouldn't matter. As long as it can churn out passable graphics and Nintendo has a good strategy to lure developers (like with the DS), then it should be fine. And the graphics look absolutely fine to me.

People seem to expect more and more out of home consoles as far as graphics go, but that's honestly a job for a computer if you ask me. I don't want to spend $500 for a home console that is "graphically superior." I'd rather get a cheaper console so that I can actually afford to buy some games...

you know, rarely do we get people who talk sense, but you my sir are talking A LOT of sense. I give you props for this post.

You'd ahve to work pretty damn hard to make those CPU's weaker than either of the Cell or Xenon.

Like how you have to emulate and slow down the old DOS/Windows games?

The good news though is that E3 is approaching and all those propogating the false, or dubious, information will have the facts thrown at them with the force of a thousand suns.   OK, maybe not.  But Our logic, common sense and deductive reasoning will be vindicated at the very least.

Haters are goign to hate no matter what happens.  Get ready for the goals posts to get moved.

sorry for putting words in your mouth and i do agree with those points

but its a year old demo so things may have changed since then

really, the Zelda demo looks above every Ps3 game to my eyes

don't mind my username, that was more than 10 years ago, I'm a different person now, amazing how people change ^_^

Hopefully this Youtube video will take down some of these rumors. It's quite well informed.

I don't want to believe the CPU won't be as good if not better than a 7-8 year old 3 core processor.....

No people can have their own opinions on the Tech demos, as when the Zelda game launches its going to look alot better then that Tech demo (As every zelda tech demo as never looked as good as the final game). But people that think the Wii U is going to be more weak then a PS3 and 360 i call fanboys, mostly cos of them 2 Demos prove them wrong plus the fact them 2 demos look so good when they where only done in a few weeks, and on very early dev kits, something Developers that have used their names have said that the dev kits are getting better with each version. But it seems some people would be more happy to believe anonymous devs, their the people i call fanboys, people who like to try to downplay the Wii U at every chance they get, instead of looking at facts.

people can only judge from what they've seen so far... and for some it hasn't impressed them and therefore their comments reflect that

You're right. People can only judge from what they see. Like when they saw that third party showreel from last E3 that was just PS3/360 footage and judged it to look 'worse than 360 games' before it was revealed as PS3/360 footage. That remains one of the most interesting insights into the psyche of those people...
