Recently I've seen Hunger Games and 21 Jump Street.

Hunger Games was shit, I give it like a 3/10.

But 21 Jump Street was great, really funny. Definitely an 8.5-9/10

My brother just bought me Tron: Legacy on Blu-Ray! What did you all think about that movie? Did you see the old one?

Tron Legacy is one of those movies where the audio-visual experience alone can carry the whole movie. The plot was barely there but the characterization (Bridges and Penn mostly) was just enough to make it bearable, and then you just have to sit back and enjoy the light show.

So yeh, I enjoyed it! Feast for the eyes, basically.

I did watch the original, it has aged very poorly, I just enjoy seeing a young(er) Bridges really.

Yeah, the musical score in Tron: Legacy is just phenomenal. Daft Punk blew it away. Looked great in 3D in the cinema too. Now I'll see how it is in 2D

Agreed. The soundtrack is one of the best in recent years. I watched (or listened) to this movie 3 times shortly after buying it on blu-ray. Great use of surround sound and the .1 in 7.1

Btw thanks for the thread Spurgeonryan, made me check my amazon cart and ended up buying 4 new blu-rays ugh.
Microcosmos, Adventures of TinTin, The Artist and Grave of the Fireflies.

Finally a new release of Grave of the Fireflies. I looked for that one for years and it was always out of stock or over $70.

I have heard great things about both movies.

What would you say went wrong with Hunger games in your opinion? Not enough action, or was too far away from the books for your liking?

Tatum really is proving to be the next big star! Same goes for his buddy, but since I cannot remember his name at this moment he must wait a little while longer.

Hunger Games was a great concept I thought, reminds me of "The Condemned" with Stone Cold Steve Austin. For me the problem was lack of backstory and also lack of action/violence. I think for that concept to work it had to be more violent. You can't have a movie basically about a battle to the death, but for a teen audience with not much violence.

I can't comment on how it was compared to the books, haven't read them.

And I agree with you, Tatum was awesome in 21 jump street! Jonah Hill is the other guy in it, and I agree he's great too.

You know ever since my 80's voting thread I have had no idea whatsoever what you guys are talking about this movie that I have never heard of before. I did check it out back during that thread, but at this moment I still have no idea and remember nothing that was told to me about this mystery movie "Grave of the Fireflies".

I guess I should check out the dvd section at halfpriced books. You would think I would have seen it in my weekly VHS search at these stores. But I have not.

I enjoyed tin tin, a little to foreign for me, but so so much better than Chipmunks! Stay away from the Chipmunks! Have I mentioned that to anyone before? Especially the third one!!!...!

It's a classic about 2 kids trying to survive during WW2 in Japan. I've been looking for it too in used dvd sections but never found it.

Don't worry, never crossed my mind to watch a chip munks movie, childhood trauma and all that...
Have you see the muppets movie? Is that any good?

this movie made me cry, one of my best of all time...

the 2008 live action version is also more than worth watching

don't mind my username, that was more than 10 years ago, I'm a different person now, amazing how people change ^_^

The grave of fireflies is an must see but can be very shocking ..

Also finally saw the smurfs and Tintin.. Didn't enjoyed the first one except for the opening when you see the village but for the rest if felt like a child movie. Tintin I enjoyed even when it felt different than the comic/cartoon and I really look forward to the next one.

Btw one that is an must see aswell is 'My name is Khan' =p. It is my number 1 movie of all time because the movie is so well made. Their are not that many movies where I laugh, smile, be sad, be getting angry, make me cry and made feel like a different person after watching it =p. Just recommending it because their are so many who never have heard of it so yeah check it out (great family/gf/bf movie)..

Check the trailer if you have no clue what I am talking about:

There was a fan sneak preview for Titanic (3D) on Tuesday night where I live and so I went to that with a friend. The 3D was really impressive in my opinion. There was more people there than I expected, which is a good sign.

i put alot of butter on my popcorn

not seeing titanic

horror fan looking forward to seeing cabin in the woods, dont like seeing new movies lot of movies recently released in this genre imo suck, i like watching older and foreign horror movies particularly from france, theres alot of hidden gems in both horror and action from europe and japan

If you do check grave of the fireflies out, please PLEASE watch it with Japanese voices. The english ones suck and can almost ruin the movie.

I do  not speak Japanese.

But I really enjoyed Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon even though it was subtitled, so this should not matter either way. Although if it is on VHS and I find it I would imagine that it will be subtitled anyways.

I do not speak Japanese either, but you'd be doing yourself and the movie a great disservice by watching it in English. You'll understand if you watch it.

Same with Akira, much better in Japanese. And you get the best soundtrack that way on the blu-ray release.
German movies are also better with subtitles, Das Boot, Das leben der anderen and Lola rennt aren't the same in English. It does help that I can understand a bit of German, Japanese hardly anything beyond hello and thank you.
