Forums - Sony Discussion - Sony just might close their Zipper.

Well its always a sad thing when studios get closed. But i think its the right move by Sony. Sony must support studios like Naughty Dod and Santa Monica Studios which bring citically acclaimed games which sell.

And Zipper on the other hand doesnt bring anything great in the last years. All there games ( Socom 4, Mag, Unit13) werent big sellers and only mediocore. So i personally see no reason why Sony should support them any longer.

On the other hand Team Ico also havent any big seller but they bring unique experiences.

About time, it was only logical.

One does wonder who is to blame, however. If Zipper failed only after Sony bought them outright, was it an issue of the kind of games Sony was making them make? Is it a casualty of poor publisher strategy or a death brought on by studio rot?

If anyone's to blame, it's PS3 owners for not buying the games. But in seriousness, the problem is that these were pretty good games competing with a sea of amazing games; many of which are also PS3 exclusive. Sony are just doing what MS has already done and paring back investment on the mature platform, which has already achieved critical mass. It's better to focus investment on the next generation and leave this gen to the hits.

Damn. Unit 13 was really good.

Still, probably time for Sony to start shedding some of their underperforming studios (read: all but Naughty Dog).

Hey, SCE Santa Monica also make good games!

Yeah, although what they're really good at is helping other people make great games. I don't think Flower or Journey would be what they are without Santa Monica, and it'll be interesting to see how thatgamecompany does on their own.

Fuck this, I liked MAG.

updated: 14.01.2012

playing right now: Xenoblade Chronicles

Hype-o-meter, from least to most hyped:  the Last Story, Twisted Metal, Mass Effect 3, Final Fantasy XIII-2, Final Fantasy Versus XIII, Playstation ViTA

bet with Mordred11 that Rage will look better on Xbox 360.

i wonder instead of closing zipper , would sony sell them to make some money back ?

I remember when people told me that Socom 2 is PS2s Halo 2 for online gaming.

Sad for the employees though. Hope they will land on their feet.

Imagine not having GamePass on your console...

Sony should buy That game company

God of War !!! (admittedly, they have just made the same game 3 times, but it is still a really good game)

Yeah, thatgamecompany are going multiplatform aren't they? I assume they have got enough money from their previous games to give them enough time to make another interesting game, so I think they will be okay

They are, yeah. And they're hiring. I suppose they'll have to beef up a bit to make up for the loss of Sony Santa Monica's support.
